Who is mapping your car - how are they doing it?
Common method is using a unichip which adapts the signals from the standard ECU.
For a stand alone 'mappable' ecu your looking at a couple of grand.

Plus side to this is there isn't the expense of the unichip and it's done all via the ECU instead of the unichip fighting / manulipuating the ECU
Only downside is if you need a re-map, you need to go back, and go through the whole process again, but it should be cheapier than the inital out lay of the unichip
Begbie,
I didn't realise 20VT owners have this option! BTW, when you say they replace the chip surely this new mappable chip will have base maps for the 20VT and then their s/w can modify them?
Not quite the same with us 16VT, tunerpro ostreich (sp?) and a wideband lambda (and as you mention a good ear for knocking...)
cheers
V.

I probably know of one company who could live map, but they are in blackpool and have a serious investment in there equipment, like 30k worth of equipment. There website is www.remapping.co.uk and if you want to have a proper read on what is involved with live mapping, sit back, get a brew on and read this

This is exactly what was done to my ECU. Doing this is better than a unichip as you have access to everything providing you have the correct software. I can get as far as chapter 4 but the problem is I don't have the software to interoperate the eeprom dump into a usable map also the emulator is key as you need it whilst live mapping. This method is just as good as going standalone except for our crappy airflow meter. I would recommend this method over unichip or any other piggy back chip. It may also be a better method than some standalones.
