Hello , does any one know of a fiat/lancia/alfa which i could get a bigger brake servo of which would fit with out to much work OR any way of improving the original servo. Thanks G
p.s. Before any one asks , brakes have being rebuilt uprated pads and discs fitted IMHO I think the coop is under assisted.

i agree genic but my brakes seem pants any way how did you bleed yours matey and what fluid etc?

I used dot 5, halfords own.All though I could be paranoid but my clutch pedal dont seem to be as good , mabye the clutch master/slave cylinder dont like it. Any way I started at the rear drivers side then passenger rear side, the passenger front then drivers front. I pumped the pedal, with a pipe in jar off the bleed nipple. G

According to Rog@pf an alfa GTV servo is larger and more efficient but its the fact there isnt space for a larger servo on the coupe.

The small servo gives it the squishy pedal feel, itsa shame because the OEM brakes are actually quite good, they just feel naff.

may be something to do with mixing fluids.
Brake servo is more than up to the job, if your pedal is squishy it isn't due to the servo unless yours has a particular problem

IMHO I think there is less servo assistance on the coupe than a lot of cars the same age and younger, but I prefer it like that. With the coupe I think you can be more progresive on the brakes, and less on/off like a lot of modern cars...

Instead of uprating, could you just not replace with a new one? It might just be the old one is knackered, not needs uprating.

Hopefully you ment 5.1 fluid too, not dot 5?!

I'm in the same boat really, uprated pads, disks, hoses etc but still feels as though it's lacking something. I'm going to replace my servo with a new one and see if that improves matters.

If you do have dot 5 fluid that will be an issue. Replace it with high grade dot 4

Isn't there a way of pumping the pedal after you've turned off the engine to see if it's knackered or not. Something like 5 pumps before it goes stiff is good(oo er!!), less than that you have a leak?!

I might be wrong, but I thought it was something along those lines. Hopefully someone will clarify.

sorry meant 5.1 , it could be worn. but it does have a lack of feel to it. Let us know hiow you get on with a new one mark.

All i know is i had an evo with the brembos on and it could stop a train dead...The coupe runs similar rotas and there crap.
Imo my stock bravo brakes were better.
The rears dont do enough,and theres too much weight over the front wheels.Cast iron block doesnt help.

Ok just a thought, but if there was a leak on my intake manifold it would not be producing as much vacumn. I know Jimbo had trouble with the rubber tubes between the manifold and plenum. That would effect my braking would it not??? usaully have around -0.7 bar when i let off the accelerator, is that around normal? G

I think mine drops to -0.82bar(or there abouts) when I let off, idle should be about -0.6bar.

Yeah that sounds about right thanks Mark. Have had a few ideas which might help,Have to take the engine out ;ater this year so will be able to have a look, and see what is possible. G
