This is the stretch of road that EVO magazine uses regularly for its photoshoots and for testing some high-performance metal.
It's a slight detour off the wonderfully picturesque A5 - lovely meandering road that suffers from not having
quite enough straights to pass multiple caravans at once (caravan caravans, if you will...)
Anyway took the opportunity to blast around this and test out my new strut-brace - the verdict on that is positive; although I hadn't realised how that little bit of flex was useful to determine when I was approaching the limits of adhesion!
The roads themselves? well to be honest they were not really my cup of tea. I'm no more than competent behind the wheel, and my car is really a GT car, but these roads were just not as much fun as I'd hoped.
It's not not that I couldn't drive them quickly - three figures are rumoured to have been spotted on several occassions, and 80MPH is
very easily attainable; rather it's that it's just a little
too fast and flowing to be that satisfying - I don't think I ever had to slow to less than 40MPH on a corner. The Sallygap and Wicklow gap are to my mind more enjoyable (these are in the Dublin mountains and about 30 mins drive from me)
I don't know -maybe there are people on here who are willing to do 120+ MPH on a back road in pursuit of driving fun, but I'm not one of those - I prefer roads that challenge me without having to do silly speeds. They're a pleasant diversion, and worth the spin if you're in the area, but I wouldn't be driving miles out of the way to visit them.
Some pics (not mine - nicked from PH - just to give an idea).
