Good to see the work progressing - also good to see so much of my old car being used to good effect - makes me a little less sad about scrapping it frown

Looking good Marco, yours is another coupe i'm really looking forward to seeing at Spa.

I'm guessing though, that when Mrs Marco sees the overspray all over her step, you might not be allowed to come??

Very secure!!!

The lower part only had 2 bolts that will go once you chop it!!!

It's got a lot of support at the top plus the main bolts that go in the cross member!!!!

Thanks for looking mate!

It's taking longer than I expected and I havent started on the forged build yet....

Tanks Joe!

It has not come easy doing this....

The GT28R didn't fit to it have a 2 bolt intercooler attachment. frown

So I'm back to the hybrid.

But Joe the legend found the belt was out 1 tooth, there was a sensor not working, he did cracking work.

So nice to see so much of my old Sprinty being put to good use

Congratulations on sticking with it AND for doing something just a little bit different

Yes this paint is very impressive, it's totally unique and still has that lovely Sprinty lustre, looking forward to seeing this parked next to a standard coloured Coupe.

DOT5 wow, are you going to flush out the DOT 4 or 5.1 to replace it with silicon based fluid? I just read that it's not advisable to use in cars with ABS?

or have you converted to it already? smile

Well as I don't have an under tray, it's exposed to the road dirt and crap.

Don't worry... It's going to be transformed before spa!!

I promise it will be mint just for you Joe!!!

Also, there's no oil... Just dirt... More dirt and a bit more dirt...

Mate, glad you have persevered in this and if anyone says tuning is easy or within a budget, you know what that it will take twice as long and double the budget.

Keep going mate, you're nearly there smile

Good luck with the fitting and mapping.

Be interesting to see what you get powerwise from it with all those lightened parts.

Quicker spin up (and down) and a smoother engine plus a little bit extra resilience at top end RPM before it goes bang.

Supposedly... rolleyes

I had an engine built with lightened and balanced materials and don't notice the difference over my current coupe.

Lightened flywheel is always a good idea and will make the biggest difference.

Ross, no supposedly about it if it's done properly.

It's down to basic physics and engineering.

I'm quite happy that I know what I'm talking about here and I'm guessing all these motorsport companies don't do it just for the fun of it.

So that's a direct quote from Barbz that balancing and lightening is a waste of time?

Tbh Ross, if you think lightening and balancing all the engine components is a waste of time...

You must of wasted your money with Barbz.

Why would Barbz build and sell some thing thats pointless??

Barbz - if you read this, share your opinions on a lighten and balanced engine please smile

Research and development can be hit or miss.

Yes it would have been better than non lightened/balanced, but there was no obvious advantages on our setup's, hence I didn't go the same way this time.

And you continuing with your "holier than thou" attitude as usual.

Again you've avoided the question.

Please enlighten me with your infinite wisdom with regards to your experiences with balanced and lightened components on the coupe?

You made an issue out of this, I was not having a go at you, I was simply stating my opinion. You on the otherhand are clearly bored on a Friday night. Fortunately I'm getting paid to type this reply to you.

Ross

p.s. sorry Marco, I wasn't having a go at you. Would like to see your results to compare what I found with mine. As I said, all the best.

Put them away chaps,i know its Friday night so a beer and a fight is on the cards but leave that for the younger generation.

In short :-

I have been playing with lightened components for years both at a personal interest and for customers vehicles.

Lightening offers no noticeable advantage for performance in general on the same platform.

Every 20vt i have driven performs differently and no two are comparable from factory.

I have also built numerous engines to the same spec, some have 3 bar oil pressure, some have 1 bar hot.
Some make 300 bhp others make 360 on the same identical setup.
Theres no rule of thumb for expected performance.

In terms of balancing as far as im concerned can be argued both ways.
The first assumption is the less weight a mechanical component in rotation has then the less mechanical resistance.
In the old days turning on aircon and other ancillaries would make a noticeable difference to engine performance.
Mechanical drag/weight is no different so in theory it should make a difference all be it marginal.

The reason i always lightened components is to increase the engines life and the balancing helps against mechanical resonance or frequency at higher rpm.

Ontop of this EVERY little thing in turn add upto alot in the end even if its only a few digits.

So there isnt a yes or no to it.
Yes it should make a difference but i never notice it.

Ross - turbo failure, turbo bearing breaking to bits going into the oil

Hence no boost and low oil pressure!

And the improvement was all down to the Quaife? Not any other suspension/engine/wheel/tyre differeneces? And what do you do with the viscodrive, chuck it away and replace it with the Quaife, or are there two Quaife units, one for each wheel to replace the CV joint? See, I am thick, really wink

Marco, it's a cracking read this thread. Congrats for sticking with it! I look foward to the read once it's all back together with the Quaife fitted.

Dave, from what I have seen, the viscous drive is deleted and the Quaife diff replaces the actual diff inside the gearbox.

you not thick Dave..

i assumed your just having a laugh.

im having a Quaife fitted to my car.

as the Quaife is an uprated LSD and after going out in JBT's car at spa, the level of grip ect that his car gave showed this would be a worth while upgrade.

Was all down to the driver not the diff laugh

from what i could tell, the quaife makes a massive difference!!
the Visco gets binned along with the OE diff, then the quaife & replacment seal gets put in.
when it gets fitted i will take MANY photos to show whats what to make life easy in life!!
you will see!
and like i said, your not thick... juat special laugh
LOL

The diff doesn't make cornering better IMO.
Take the French lad Regis and Barbz at spa.
They cornered faster than me so it's down to the minerals.

I backed off as I was reaching speeds I was uncomfortable and unfamiliar with.

Fitting wise this will be a classic case of why one should seek advice.

You stuck with it mate, when many, many people would have thrown in the towel. That's true commitment, and why it's a cracking read wink

If it was not for the forum and people I have met and people who have helped that car would be in bits and bunt to the ground then laid to rest in the scarp heap.

Great to see its all up and running now Marco.

Good luck with it all and keep us posted,

Now you know how much work, stress and money goes into it, this is why it is alot easier and cheaper to buy one thats already done, is your Forged too?

Have you set a date for the mapping?

Alright mate!

see, the stree was all involed with the componets used.
I.E bent crank, damameged block ect.

mine is not forged, is a fully lightned and balanced.

the joy about my build is.. ive built it.

if some one else was doing this, then it would of cost them a sh*t load more in man hours.

i would always do it my self.
thats why i did all my courses and got my tickects!

if i was not able to do it my self..
then buying some thing like your would be the best option.

ive worked out in balls deep around 10k +

mapping is set for around the 30th!

"but when it comes on boost the sound is just spot on..
it added what I wanted on full throttle".

one tiny few second blat cant hurt laugh

and it was a productive test...

all the boost hose's stayed on...
my engine didnt go bang
and i heard the exhaust and i like it laugh

im itching to let loose in this thing, every thing about it wants me to abuse it.
ive been a good boy as promised, driving it like a granny.
laugh

funny thing is, flea will experience this car on full boost before i will...

i dare say im going to be jealous of him laugh

Marco - my guess is that your rear compensator is seized, causing your rear wheels to lock - there's no other way you could spin a Coupe in a straight line

Rear ARB is waiting to be shipped....
