I know I asked this before so sorry for having a memory pf a fish

What size tyres can I put on 17 x 8 Azevs without any rubbing? I'm not bothered about the speedo being out?

I currently have 215/40/17 Toyos on but would like a bit more rim protection and increase wall height if possible!

I,ve got 235 40 R17 on mine. I have an inkling my wheels are 8.5" wide, but not sure.

Anyway, not much rubbing for me only on full lock and only because my arch liner doesnt sit right in the undertray.

mattB - thanks mate but I've used that before. I just really want to know if anyone is running a 45 wall on 17" wheels on their coupe without rubbing half of their liner away!

Well ,compared to my tyres, 215/45/17 is just very slightly bigger, but narrower so icant see any problems there.

didn't the le have 225/45/16's? so there shouldn't be a problem with a 225/45/17. if it was better handling you wanted, or the car to hang on a bit more in the corners, do you have a strut brace? if not. try one.

craig - I already have a strut brace. I just want a little more air between tyre and alloy!

LE's came with 205/50-16 tyres. Late 20vts and Plus's came with 225/45-16 I belive.

I used to run 235/40R17s and they caught my arches a little at the rear. I think you may also suffer the same problem if you go for this size as your alloys are ET30 ofset as well as being 8x17.
You can't run 225/45R17s as they will catch the front arch (tried it!)

Munchkin I dont think were ever going to find tyres that offer rim protection for our Azevs without rubbing the arch anyway.

Ive just replaced an alloy to as went through a pot hole a little fast and found it bent the alloy out - annoying as the car ran fine no vibration, it just looked ridiculous

If you do go wider let me know your findings will need new tyres in the summer now.

Std, Just right for everything

From the above i would say 235/40/17s should give you some protection but could always go for 225's instead only 1cm less rubber width??

If you're willing to roll your arches then 235/40R17 is ok. Or if you fitted a larger rear bumpstop it might be ok

I run the equivalent of 245/40R17 (mine are 245/35R18) and they do provide a bit of rim protection, although I never go anywhere near kerbs anyway.

I've got 235/40/R17 and i'm running eibach springs. (I dont actually think i have bump stops on my car ).

I'm certain that my arches haven't been rolled and i have no problems. Perhaps my wheels are a peculiar offset or summit.

If your offset is Et35 they won't catch. If your offset is ET30 like Munchkins they probably will. ET35 is more normal to be honest as it is a common standard between cars, but ET30 is better for handling and some manufacturers use that offset specifically for the Coupe, Grale and GTV/Spider.

If you have no bump stops your tyre will catch the front side of the rear arch nearest the pinin badge if you ever bottom out.

JohnS - the daddy of wheel and tyre advice - I thank you

225/40/R17 if they do them or 215/40/R17 - dependent on price!

225/40R17 isn't readily available as a size I'm afraid That's why you're a bit stuck with having to go for 215/45R17s

Yeah they will fit ok.

Not all alloys hold the tyre in exactly the same position, so if you want to see if 235/40R17 would fit the rears I could lend you a pair of similar sized tyres (235/45R17) to try on your rears to see if they catch your arches.

Azev A 8x17, ET30, 4x98, ø58, 235/40/R17. Never any problems and looks good as well.

I have the Eagle F1 tyres and they have a small "rubber band" that gives a little rim protection .

Well, with 8 inch rims and 235 tyres, the wheels still got the right look, i.e. it looks like the rim is broader than the rubber. And the Azev A form goes a little inwards, so it kind of works.

Still - you have to take care...

I've got 225/45/17 on a ET30 rims on the rear axle and they rubb a lot with a passenger in the car. I've got "Novitec" -40mm springs fitted. If I fit 215/45 instead of 225/45 will a 9 mm make a difference?

If you take Nankang you can have 225/40-17. Otherwise, use 215/40-17 or 235/40-17.
