After 10 months off the road having minor repairs done my Speed Red 20VT is ready for its MOT on Wed. Have tried to set myself up that it will be failed for something and at least I'll have a 'to do' list after.

This may be the most ridiculous query and I am risking the wrath of the mods by mentioning the 'O' word - thats 'oil' by the way.

As noted the car hasn't gone more than a couple of miles in 10 months at very low speeds. I lifted the bonnet and checked the oil on Friday. Problem is that there is none showing on the dipstick at all. Is it possible that it is so clean (and thin) that its not showing? Have it booked in for an oil and filter change but mechanic cant take it until weekend. If I stick in a couple of litres I might overfill it and ruin the emmissions test.

In any event wish me luck!

i would definately check again, you dont want to drive to the garage with no oil!

when you take the dipstick out press it onto a piece of kitchen roll that way even if its not visible you will still be able to tell where it comes up to by the wet patch. (that sounds a bit rude laugh )

If nothing then add oil a few hundred ml at a time until it shows on the dipstick.

Paul

ps good luck with the MOT
