No history is a worry, but if its good, then it sounds a bargain..

But just think, how can you lose a cars history!! Seriously, its pages and pages of paper, they don;t just go missing. I would say there is a chance its missing on purpose, in which case be careful!

Well, You have got to thoroughly check this vehicle out, take someone with you (mechanical brain) and have the Buyers guide from this forum to go through all the detail............if it checks out as a good example, then make an offer and keep your fingers crossed for the future!

ps. i have just purchased a '97 20VT, No tax, No mot (or previous mot's!) No paperwork at all, other than the V5, Gearstick was not centralising, oil leak and management light on!
However, in all other departments it was superb & obviously well looked after for most of its life! It drove and performed fine.

Cost me £500 shocked click to enlarge

I sorted gearshift, leak and engine management light (removed battery overnight)......Brilliant i thought!

Bargain?????

Well, just been hit for an MOT bill for £770 !! (suspension and brake lines in the main)

"Pays your money..........."

Yes, I guess you're right there, the guy i took it to (ainsely McEwen, Fiat specialist in Derby) has been very thorough, he has given the car (on my request) an extensive health check and judging by the half hour telephone conversation he had with me today, has left no stone unturned (even checked timing belt/tensioner, diagnostics, air con' coolant system etc etc...)

The coupe overall is in very good order, i have just copped for a lack servicing to some suspension components over the past few years!

As he said "it could of been a whole lot worse for £500 worth of 20VT coupe"

I'm not saying anything ooo

However, Paul at Motormech loves you like a son/brother/father laugh

Regarding the OP, as JipO said, how do you lose a service history wallet/folder?

I'd forget this particular coupe.

If you do buy it, buy it in the knowledge it may need a new clutch, full belt change, replacement turbo and a full service. Then you'd have a £1,500 with £1,500 spent on it, yet it's still worth £1,500 with no previous history. IMO if that were the case spend £3k on a good FSH 20vt6 model.

im not going take the car guys...it drives spot on, definitely doesnt need a clutch, or turbo..but belts need done, simple..there is some history but no documented proof of belts...also, its wheels need a refurb..and it has had all the dress up gubbins under bonnet, drilled airbox etc..etc..not my cup of cha....offered similar money for a '98 750i bimmer this week, so we shall see...

If you ever go and look for a car with zero history make sure you check the car out using the website that lists the previous years MOT's (think there is a link in the buyers guide, it lists the mileage with any failures.

You need the V5 to check it though and if that checks out then you can do a proper check using the RAC or HPI.
