dear all,

i have been offered a 99 model turbo plus sprint blue coupe for about 1300 pounds , however here are the defects, please let me know how much i should expect to pay more on it.

1- Alternator is dead , the car does not work without jumping ( its not the battery)
2- the cylinder cover gasket is shot and its leaking oil
3- Air condition is not cooling
4- sunroof if stuck open and cant be fully closed
5- no red key , there is only one blue key for the car
6- no servcie history at all.
7- mileage is 101358 Kilometers not MILE so around 60000 mile

please let me know asap so i make up my mind i dont want to loose this beauty.

thanks

Worth every penney...

i would buy it and sell it to me...

Alternator is easy to change, Rocker gasket is VERY easy to do...

re-gas the A/C

Red key is not that important...

no history.. whats the oil pressure like?
does it look sound? how does it drive?

sounds stupid but if it was me... i would buy it as there hard to come by...

Marco he is in uae so add shipping to your price laugh
sounds a good price but i`ve no idea on the prices of coupes over there so better ask Barbz as he has just came back from a stint there?

thank you all,

the car is located in ABU DHABI ( another city) and Barbz is in Dubai frown thats why i could not ask him about it.

the car has been sitting under the soaring heat for more than 2 months now without any cover frown

all the pipes in the car are hard and i think i need to change them all .. i will take it on saturday to inspect the chasis and if everyhting is fine it will be with me hopefully by monday evening.

nobody mentioned about the cost of repairs for the above parts ??? you only mentioned that its easy things but no cost smile lol

Camcover gasket £20 plus do that yourself easily enough
Blue no problem, get a cloned key £35 ish
A/C may need regass,likely leak somewhere £???
alternator used here £40-50 fitting...£100??

If mechanically fine from there thats it

Worst off

i went today and checked the car and drove it also, here are the problems final price as is 1000 Pounds

1- brkaes are not ok and i think they need changing (how much?)
2- alternator is shot
3- sunroof is not closing , it gives sound but no movement
4- the steering wheel leather is gone from the sun
5- the driver seats has a big tear
6- i checked the timing belt and it needs a new belt as it has so many cracks
7- AC not working ( i dont maybe because of the alternatro??
8- cylinder head gasket is full of oil
9- it needs intercooler pipes one of them are almost very loose and needs a new one it has cracks

the car idles perfectly and there is no smoke at all and it has power also ( oil pressure when hot is between 2-3 bars.

please let me know approximately how much would it cost to fix the above so i can buy it tonight

thanks

I would walk away - the cost to put all that lot right could be over £2,000

I don't understand No8 though - I think we may be losing something in translation - where is the oil?

OK - here's my estimates - two figures - best and worst case scenarios

1- brkaes are not ok and i think they need changing (how much?) £150 - £500 (cheap pads, all the way to a full set of good-quality discs and pads)
2- alternator is shot £50 - £150 (secondhand / new)
3- sunroof is not closing , it gives sound but no movement £50 - £200 (simple fuse issue, or could be a new motor)
4- the steering wheel leather is gone from the sun - £50
5- the driver seats has a big tear - £100 - £750 (quick retrim, or replacement)
6- i checked the timing belt and it needs a new belt as it has so many cracks - £500
7- AC not working ( i dont maybe because of the alternatro?? £50 (regas) up to £500 (compressor, condenser, pipes etc)
8- cylinder head gasket is full of oil (Its the rocker cover gasket) - £20
9- it needs intercooler pipes one of them are almost very loose and needs a new one it has cracks - £20

So - if you're lucky AND you do the work yourself, you could be looking at less than £1,000. However, if the aircon compressor and/or condenser have failed, if the sunroof motor is dead and if it needs brakes all round, AND you get someone to do all the work for you, you are easily above £2,000, maybe closing on £3,000 with labour

And that's before any 'unknowns' lurking in the background that you've not picked up on.

a good and clean coupe in a running order would sell for max 15000 dirhams = 3000 pounds ( this is a perfect coupe already like the one i had , the pearl white)

so you all say i should just walk away and leave it to melt under the soaring heat???

thanks

yes - if the heat has caused so many problems already, there's a chance that the car still has other problems you haven't found yet

Walk away

the silver Plus will need a cambelt and auxiliary belts straight away - that's a big bill already. I would also worry about brakes and tyres for a car that had been standing for so long

what other things i will be looking at other than Cam belt and AUX belts? the car really looks and smells new . the old man has 3 cars in his garage and last time he drove it was in jan 2009. he is asking for 1400 pounds. 2000 model 46000 Km with 3 keys and full service history but now the car has no start and it has some oil underneath it.

what do you guys think ?

Between pages one and two the car changes from a 20v turbo to a 16v turbo confused

Would I trust that garage? No!

Looking at the list they are using the "shotgun" technique and replacing things rather than fault tracing and repairing any issues found. I mean, why replace the entire sunroof and motor assembly?

As a project it would be a great challenge, but if you're looking for a car to jump into and drive then I'd run away....

i am trying to contact barbz since 2 weeks with no luck , i think he left dubai frown

guys this garage is the dealer in DUBAI and the price to fix this car is really out of this world 9000 pounds to fix a 2000 model fiat??? without even a major job involved such as a head gasket or clutch......????? THIEVES

if i fix it outside the dealer how much would it really cost? and is 400 pounds already too much for it?

thanks

I think that is really going to depend on where you go to to get it fixed up, and whether you can do any of the work yourself. A dealer is always going to be expensive, but what alternatives are there out in Dubai?

Cool - it's usually the best option unless you can do the work yourself. smile
