Ive just done a full red rear light conversion only to find that the Amber led bulbs I've brought don't shine through the red lens very well

Is it just due to poor led's or is it something to do with the yellow light through red lens ??

Cheers

Simon

After trying a number of different style led lamps, the ones that look like a tower with rows of leds up the sides fill the whole lense best with orange light. The others tend to focus the light and dont take advantage of the reflector.

Sorry johnny didn't notice your post trouble is even though the bulb focus' the light straight out of the lens I would of thought it'd be bright enough even though it's only the size of a standard bulb!! It's just really dim

Well I wasn't happy with a set of 19 LED with no side LEDs.
I found that you could only see the orange through the middle of the lens and the rest of the lens was red and the orange light looked distant/dim and not immediately conspicuous when in use.

So I ordered a few other sets to try.

< These > The 24 LED 360degrees worked quite well. The whole lens is illuminated and it looks orange. It is far more noticeable as the lens actually changes colour, rather than just burning an orange beam through the red which is not as visible.

< These > The 36 LED 360degrees worked well same as the 24 led but there was a better spread of light.

with both sets I could notice a very slight green tinge with the orange, but I was more than happy with the improvement. The 36 LED type gave the best results and I have stuck with these. Last week these successfully made it through an M.O.T. laugh I,m very happy.

yeah your right., they are the ones I won in auction though, irked but they work fine. They probably have some zenor diode in them reducing the voltage to the correct amount anyway. there are 12volt versions available < Here >. Just got me wondering now whether I should try a 12v set to see if there is any improvement.
