Jon, why not bide your time and get a good car off a departing Forum member, or perhaps ask the specialists on here to ferret you out a good one ?

You know that Joe owns the only VIS in the UK that has a Turbo fitted and an oil cooler?

Maybe a match made in heaven........

Thankfully you didn't commit to buy Jon shocked
This chap deserves seriously bad Ebay feedback - can you still give bad feedback these days confused

In this case there should be an easier way
to claim time wasting and expenses compensation as I'm sure you'd win a trade descriptions law case against the seller. grr

Hi Biggers,

It was a Pistonheads advert rather than Ebay...so no chance of feedback unfortunately

I've put it down to experience and learned a lesson though

Well,

Now I'm hung between the Vis...with another £500 minimum expenditure this week at Roger's...that I know is as good as I can get...or a turbo that will require work...

The trouble is the vis is now that good that I notice every minor blemish..every little creak or rattle...oh good grief it's coupe paranoia...I have'nt suffered this since I had a show winning 928 Porsche crazy

Jon, I think you need to be looking to spend a little more if you want a 20VT in good condition. There are so many cheapies out there and most of them will probably not be in very good condition. I bought my 20VT only a little while ago. It was the very first one I went to see, loved it and paid quite a sum for it. Two months in now, and I've never loved a car like I do this one.

I did spend months looking at the forum cars for sale, piston heads and ebay. When the right one comes along, you will just know.

I reckon you should keep with the vis myself. Turbo gets you giggling but the added paranoia, insurance, fuel and maintenance means i am defiantly on my last turbo coupe.

Ah yes, nothing like the soft soggy front end, too much weight over the front, and appalling turning circle.

As a footnote to this, another member on this list had contacted to view the car...here is the e-mail he recieved today from the vendor (hope you don't mind me publishing!):-

"TIME WASTER NO MONEY.MOB XXXXXXXX.COUPE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO VIEW.
CHEERS GXXX."

the car is back on pistonheads...you have the opportunity to make up your own minds now

I could be put out...but I think I've had a lucky escape

That is a pain Jon. Buying second hand cars is a nightmare as everyones impression of their own car is different from yours! But that sounds as though he knew it was rubbish and mis-decribed it.

Future tip. Buy your next car from me. One could say I'm a little fussy and even more fussy with my description, LOL.

Good luck.

Yes..I've since found out this car has been sold...and then not before it would seem...still there may yet be a decent outcome for someone!

For me...well we'll see what happens...I've still got a damn good coupe..soon to be improved by rog so lifes not all bad smile

Jon,
when you get to Roger's have a look at his Broom 6 Speed..... laugh . Has not been used for at least 2 years, and the bonnet matches the colour of your boot lid laugh , although the actual bodywork is completely spot/scratchless. Needs new rubber as well, but the overall condition is remarkable. The interior is amazing.

IMHO if I had the money I would have bought it on the spot, stuck it away in my garage for a few years, and just taken her to events thumb .

Not cheap, but a car like this with the mileage (26K one owner) must be one of the rarest in the UK. You might fall in love again ooo ,

Tim

not that it will be any consolation but it happens to me every single week sometimes 3 or 4 times..most people are aware i am a commoercial vehicle trader and i go out every week to see vans all over the country and it really is the trader that needs protecting from the public rather than vice versa..
we have to stick within boundries with our adds and behaviour
personally i get a lot of business from repeat custom or recomendation as i will not sell anything i would not be happy to run as my own that way i am doing all my customers a service and it works for me ..
i wouldn't try to sell anything that needed work.. in the long run it pays to have it done even if it means taking a little loss

if only the public thought that way!

twice last week i went out once to chesterfield to pick up a rwd transit..i asked the guy via ebay mail if the clutch was ok etc etc i have a list of questions i always ask..with rwd vans especially the larger i always ask about diff along the lines...any issues with diff? dry noise? whining?

i got a no the diffs fine ..you come and look at it and you wont leave without (the times i have heard that)

so as i say i drove all the way with a driver on wages to drive it back

i got there and it looked a tidy one

unfortunately i hadn't got out of his drive before my heart sank!..half way down the hill he lived on i stopped and asked him why he had had me come all that way to view, after assuring me the diff was good when it was plain for anyone with only 1 ear the diff had gone past whining to trhe most awful metal on metal noise your likely to hear from a diff..

his answer

well its driving okay..i could have punched him.. happily..

so i drive off to the contingency viewing ( i always have one now in case its a crapper i have another lined up along the route home so as not to waste the day) the swine that i had spoken to 2 hours earlier was now not home so that guy had done another favourite... the not in dont answer the phone trick..usually when they have just sold it for more than they agreed with you!

so we get home wasted day i pay my driver £50 and its another day another £100 to the public..believe me they lie cheat and try and burn you far more than traders ..usually its been to the garage needs big dollars spending so they put it on ebay or trader and hope you don't suss untill its too late some just are not mechanically minded and don't realise it has issues..those i can understand but 1 in evry 2 i go to see that are private sales are wrong in some way and most owners do know what they are doing ..

it's a sad reflection really on the way most people put money before anything and everything else and a lot think strangers are fair game it seems

so john you will no doubt find the good one they are there but you may have to go through the same experience again before finding it ...

good luck mate!

Very true words...it cost me a few hundred pounds and a wasted day...thank goodness I do not do it for a living!

We'll see if rog' and I can do a deal...all depends on how benevolent the boss feels on the day...and how much she'll expect me to spend on her in the coming months..high finance indeed...

Oh if i do end up with the beastie...they'll be a nice broomy na up for grabs again... wink

Some private sellers are honest some are dishonest, same with traders. The only difference is the traders who try and rip you off are much better at it... practice makes perfect. wink
