hi there, it seems that no-one is interested in buying a 1997 porto blue coupe, so i think im going to bite the bullet and keep it, who needs a boring old diesel any way money aint everything.

but i was wondering if any one could tell me if hammerite would take to a normal painted car or does it need rust?

i thought of using hammerite as i think the effect would look cool either in black or silver, also the added bonus of not need an undercoat or laquer

any imput much appreciated

Bad idea IMO, I cannot imagine that a hammerited coupe would look cool. Once this is done, if you do it, you may as well write it off.

Cars will sell, it's just that things are slow presently on the 2nd hand car front, especially for cars that are perceived to be money pits as they get older.

Give it time, don't ruin it thumb

Whatever you decide to do, good luck

Yes, a professional matt finish does and will look good. I have trouble making horn carriers look good when using hammerite, never mind an entire car!

Keep it, get the paint sorted, professionally, and the love will return

This has to be up there with some of the most crazy ideas I have seen on this forum.

I'm going to hammerite my coupe.

Classic!

I seriously thought you was joking with this thread and I still think you might be on a wind up.

Yes, hammerite will take to paint. Its designed to take to rust and corroded metals but thats on rusty gates and the like, not on the body work of a coupe frown

Its fine to use on old engine components that you want to spruce up but keep that tin well away from the body of you coupe!

What finish were you thinking of?
Matt, smooth or hammered?

I want to know if you're going to use spray or out of the tin?

I'm also thinking of painting my coupé with waxoyl. It will keep the metal in great condition and I think the yellow slimy look will really finish her off. tongue

I'm not.

Hmmm... brushing. Well one good thing with hammerite is that it's thick and gooey and it doesn't tend to dry up exposing the brush strokes. The bad thing is that it's thick and gooey so quite impossible to actually have the same layer thickness everywhere.

Another bad thing is that the paint is quite 'rubbery' so nearly impossible to keep clean on a car I would presume. The dust just digs in there.

Lol dude step away from the hammerite.

The finish will look pants.

If you really fancy doing something get the spray cans out

Why don't you try and do something else in hammerite first? Don't do the oven, nor the bath, not the missus - just something you don't really need.

Alternatively, if you WOULD like to go ahead with your idea I would recommend looking in to Valvoline's Tectyl 190.

Errr... wink

Far easier to spray on, then tell Patch you've got slight orange peel on your car.
You'll certainly get your money's worth when he loses 2 stone trying to flat and polish that lot out rofl thumb

This is how it should have come out of Torino!
