Hi guys,

I'd like to suggest a new venue for many of you - Keevil, in Wiltshire.
It's a venue I have driven a couple of times and would suit both the Coupes and us Seveners having some twistys and straights. The surface is very good as airfields go and I experienced no gravel to the face in the Caterham and tyre wear among tin tops also appeared good.

I'm suggesting Keevil for a few reasons -

- It's cheap at £90 for open pit (not the advertised £99)
- It's suitable for beginners with run off
- It's local to me and not difficult for the Midlands or South guys to get to
- Motorsport events do run their days well
- Whilst they list the days at 100db I have rarely ever seen a car get noise tested/excluded

Monday 11th of July.

http://www.motorsport-events.co.uk/

When booking please call Natasha from Motorsport Events on 07855 482953 quoting my name (David) as the reference. Doing this will mean you will get the booking for £90. Let me know when you have booked and paid and I will add you to the list.

1. Fishy_Dave and Beth Paid
2. Flea Paid
3. Jonny Paid
4. Neal Paid
5. Elder81 + Dad Paid

+ Five or more guys from my local area in their Caterhams, so I can confirm that we will be paying £90 each.

I like the sounds of that Dave, but I'll have to check the holiday situation to see whether I can spare a day off. Hmmm....

Will this be a coupe forum only session or will it be with the general public?

It will be open to everyone, the more FCCUK guys going the less general public there will be of course. No sessions, it's open pit so you are free to drive on track as often as you would like through the day.

@Hovedan, ah yes, I remember meeting you there now. smile

Everyone will be booking sepererately on the website Marco smile

Just the one day at Oulton (if you discount the failed day at Donny! laugh )

I've been too busy with work frown , and my Westie is also currently living elsewhere as we are having a load of building work done on the garage. So I've not even had much tinker-time frown

I'd like to do a couple in August and the same in September ... and will let you know what I'm looking at smile

If my brother is free as well then we'll book up cool I'll always book on a day with people I know, much more fun evil

Looks like there'll be some opportunity for some back end action laugh

FYI

Trackdays.co.uk are just brokers, they take a percentage of booking.

Motorsportevents are excellent people, maybe get someone to ring Ed Moore and suggest a deal for FCCUK?

Yes, please book direct with Motorsport Events and quote my name (David) when booking and you will receive a discount bringing the cost to £90 for the day. This does depend on us reaching ten bookings, which I'm pretty confident we will. For those who have booked already please can you call Natasha on 07855 482953 and let her know.
Thanks

I could come along and give you some tips if required? The week before I am driving at Castle Combe with the Lotus Seven Club (their may still be a place if you'd like me to ask?), so won't have the budget for another day so soon after.

Very kind of you to offer Dave. smile I may very well take you up on that offer.

I don't think I can do castle coombe the week before. I'm on a limited number of holidays and was planning on tying in this day with seeing a friend in frome.

Well we are more than likely going to be coming, just dad needs to get his arse into gear and decide what he is driving! He is a little concerned about taking the Porsche as he is not that confident in it yet, but wants to take the kit car instead. I told him, to take both and we can swap! smile

Great, pleased you'll be able to make it. It's the perfect way for your Dad to gain confidence in the Porsche.

Some good news, I have opened out the invitation to the local area of the Lotus Seven Club, and we have a good few takers. This means we will definately get the £90 each rate for this trackday.

Cheers

To be fair, they all do have a point. Stanford hall was a 2hr drive, but you didn't hear me complaining about somewhere to stay overnight, yet you overslept and only lived an hour away from it rolleyes

There seem to be cheap places to stay overnight - it's over 2 and a half hours of M25/M4 for me, so I'm staying at a place in Devizes on the Sunday. Trackday's free (voucher), so happy to pay for an overnight.

Hope you "hardcore" guys feel suitably manly picking flies out of your teeth whilst I'm having a nice cooked breakfast after 8 hours sleep laugh

PS - Marco, sign-on is 9am, so not too bad.

Although dad and I will be coming, (Dad should be paying as I write this) it will not be in the porsche, but in the kit car!

Apparently there is a problem with the wastegate getting stuck open on the left hand side. Although I am perfectly confident he could fix it in time, I am pretty sure it's just he is still too scared of the porsche! lol!

Still the kit car will be fun and we can give Dave and the other open top runners a run for their money! Woo Hoo!

Hi guys, We are still in Spain, but picked up the phone and paid for us today. wink

Natasha did say that only two others have booked using my name as a reference, which is strange. Might be worth checking that you guys were only charged £90 each. smile

Have I got the list correct on page one? Have Flea and others now paid? smile

Great day, I basked in the sun thoroughly enjoying the worry free experience of being a passenger smile

So, we (Flea, Senny Dave & I) arrived around 9am in the beast

A sign of the times where 7 forum members were there, and not one coop on track.
We had 1 Alfa (Flea, above),
1 MK Indy (Jonny)

1 Caterham (Fishy Dave)

1 Locost (Elder81)

and a Clio Sport (Neal) - sorry didn't take a pic frown

Highlight of the day, has to be Jonny making Flea feel sick after a spin in the Indy.

Thanks to all who gave me a ride (in the best possible sense!)

And a pic to show what happens to the balance of a Caterham when Senny Dave squeezes into the passenger seat. The constant scraping of his exhaust on the floor ended with this biglaugh

Seriously, Dave, hope you found the rest of your exhaust and get it back together as painlessly as possible.

Really good day, very well-run, good fun track, with just the right number of cars, and a nice atmosphere. Really nice to see you all and meet a couple of guys from here for the first time. Clio ran well, didn't break, and the new wheels (thanks Jonny/Ed) looked great, so that's satisfying.

Some stunning cars on the day too - Dyno Rod-coloured Caterham CSR260 was my favourite. Even had a decent journey home - suffering with a bit of sunburn now though smile

Awesome day indeed! A big thanks to Dave for getting this on the go!

I think it is fair to say that I ragged the hell out of the locost and it might finally persuaded dad to get a LSD and a decent set of tyres! (I am trying to wipe dads memory of my 90 mph spin)

Nice to meet everyone and almost take out Neal in the Clio coming into the last hairpin!

Also apologies to Dave for getting VW transporter geeky on him!

Sadly the tow car (Dad's Ulysse) went back into limp mode on the way home and we couldn't get above 50mph all the way home!

Hi all, been a busy day at work.

Plenty of FCC UKers along, not one with a Coupe though!

Highlights for me -

- The Caterham ran well (until the end anyway) and was only overtaken by that quick mk1 Escort when I got stuck in traffic.
- Perfect weather, warm but not too hot, still have a glowing face though.
- Good company, will bring more chairs next time. Interesting the selection of cars that ex and current Coupe owners bring along with them. The MK was going well Jonny and the new 172 looked good Neal (well, except the steering wheel tongue ). You didn't bore me with VW talk Elder81, impressive achievement to have built a car from scratch.
- Well run day, good value and despite there being loads of cars in the paddock, it never felt crowded on track.
- Enjoyed giving passenger rides, sorry to those I didn't get chance to take out.
- Matching the pace of the CSR260, the owner of which is someone I coach. To be fair my slicks do help and I didn't have a passenger, but I couldn't have driven much faster.

Downsides -

- Didn't bring enough fuel for the day which limited the number of laps I could do.
- The exhaust breaking off completely when I had Senny Dave onboard (a coincidence I'm sure wink ). It made a hell of a noise when it broke, I thought I was about to be hit by another car!

Thankfully the exhaust breakage happened towards the end of the day so I didn't miss much track time, and looks like it will be possible to weld up. Besides, it gave me another chance to have some passenger laps in that CSR260 you like Neal cool

Really looking forward to the next one now.

Cheers, Dave and Beth

Yes it was a great day, well organised, a good selection of cars and plenty of space on track. I'm glad it clouded over by lunchtime, it was getting pretty hot.

We brought the car down on the trailer (purchased the day before laugh , for a bargain price). So despite a 2hr20min journey each way, it was much more relaxed than normal. Once we got through the noise test rolleyes (cheers Senny Dave) and endured the slightly long briefing laugh we were ready to go.

I always find airfield tracks harder to learn, but towards the end of the morning, we were going quite well. It was a little bit bumpy for our stiffly sprung car, which resulted in a bit of understeer on a few corners, plus braking was fun into some of the chicanes shocked However it was a good layout and one of the better airfield tracks.

As usual, nothing much went past. As I'm sure everyone noted on the day, the TVR engined Escort was shocked , plus an over-enthusiastic Scooby RA actually touched the back of our car trying to brake as late as us into one chicane grr No damage luckily.

On one outing with Leighton in the passenger seat we had the CSR260 some way behind us as well. I, like Fishy was pleased that it wasn't really catching us up laugh

Great day, made even more fun by a few familiar faces cool

Fishy- Pah this Caterham build quality isn't what it's all cracked up to be, we must have given Senny Dave hundreds of passenger laps and nothing's fallen off tongue

My car is a bit smaller though tongue

Besides, the exhaust was an uprated one from Powerspeed, so not Caterhams fault wink . I've had a good run of 60+ trackdays and races with no mechanicals, so can't complain. smile

Oh yeah, forgot about that briefing zzz , I'm sure that's how I got a sunburnt neck.

I wish now we had all gone out together in convoy to get some better video footage, I shall arrange that next time. We have done this in the past iirc.

Bit of footage of Elder81s kit and a bit of Neals Clio, plus me chasing after the CSR260. smile

Well, except for the exhaust blush

The first clips had Hovedan onboard. The car was a twitchy thing running stiffer springs for the first time. I like a car to oversteer, but it was a bit unpredictable to begin with. smile

Thanks, next time I will get us to do a bit more swapping places so you get in the video some more.

That video tells me a couple of things:

1. My dad drives like a woose (No wonder he didn't want to bring the Porker)

2. How desperatly we need some semi decent tyres. You were flat out on the fast sweeping right hander, i had to back off just before the bend then power through to stop me from spinning. Although by the end of the session I was mid corner at 100mph (Indicated).

3. Dad def needs to invest in LSD as we kept spinning the inside wheel which you appear to have none off!

Shame not some more footage of the yellow peril.

I have a good lap or two when I was following him, just to get you some footage, it doesn't look very exciting though blush laugh
I could see that you were driving it more quickly. I can only imagine how many hundreds of hours it must have taken to build, so I can understand him been careful.
Tyres will make the biggest single difference that's for sure.
