Side intake Pipes (SIP's) Talk to me!
Should I bother? I have a FMIC and stage 3 turbo in my garage ready to go on. You can pick up a SIP and filter for £50-60. I'm aiming for no more than 300BHP as my clutch is standard and new. Should I fit a SIP? I'm also wary of it sucking in water, with it being lower than standard. Flea if you're seeing this, I value your opinion greatly.

You can use a 90 degree bend if you are worried about water. I have used a SIP for several years and had no problems with water.
I like the sound from the dump valve and with a SIP and cone filter the sound is even better.

That.

I just posted a couple of weeks ago when I drove through a big puddle and sucked up a load of water through the air filter.

Nearly crapped my pants, but the water luckily never made it into the engine. It did take me a few hours to strip everything down(including FMIC) to drain all the water.

Ebay. You will need the adaptor plate with it. I think they are around £90 now shocked

Generally I don't advise using a SIP these days as the gains are not significant. I have tuned cars before and after, and there is no difference. That said, if you do use one (and there are other reasons to), then make sure the MAF is positioned as far from the turbo as possible preferably after a 45/90 degree bend.

Can you give us an example?
Have you tested the SIP on a 400 HP car and seen no benefits?

And cause idling problems. Don't bother is my advice.

I have used it for a year now, and not a problem at all.
Turbo...reducer hose....SIP...Coupler hose....MAF...90* bend hose...Apexi air filter cone

That is my configuration

I've had mine fitted for several years, it's one of barbz's originals with RamAir filter, no bends anywhere so fitler right down on the floor, and not even a hint of any idling problem, but on mine the air flows in the opposite direction to yours Kenge wink tongue

RamAir filter - short hose - MAF (upside down) - short hose - SIP - reducer hose - GT28R turbo

Just go for it rolleyes (a lot cheaper nowadays!)

What about the spool up. Is it quicker?

I think a slowly tapered SIP like the ProAlloy is preferred. It seems a short reducer hose destroys spool-up, so it did on mine (3" down to GT28R) anyway, by 500rpm or so.

Hi. When I had my SIP installed I RR before and after and although I had slightly faster spool up (very slightly) my inlet temps went up. Just another factor to think about.

Cheers
