My project 400bhp (2.0 20vt) #13006

After numerous delays for various reasons my engine has finally begun to be put back together

Would have been ready for today, but garage is spending some extra time checking all the tollerances for the forged rods and pistons are spot on.

Should get it to run in sometime in Jan and then will be a case of mapping and then fine tuning.

Thats sounds super, hope it all goes well.

At this rate my 300bhp will be puny compared to some cars

TBH 300-330bhp is pretty easy to obtain just using bolt on parts.

ie turbo, exhaust, chip, FMIC

Above that is where it gets pricy and you have to think about driveability.

Have two options : stick to 2.0 or go for a 2.4 conversion.

The 2.4 will be better for day to day driving and less laggy (depending on turbo) but will have a bill of a few grand right up to the skys the limit depending on titanium internals, motec ecu, custom turbo etc etc. Also has potential for 400bhp-800bhp?

With the 2.0 route you are basically needing forged internals and using a large turbo to produce brute power. Potentially as quick as a 2.4, but will be much laggier. Can be just as expensive, but allows the car to be tuned gradually (apart from the cost of the rods + pistons)

Suspension:

I have replaced all components such as top mounts, wishbones, track rod ends, rear arms etc. The actual shocks are uprated bilsteins and the springs are the uprated eibachs.

Brakes:

I am running EBC Turbogroove discs all round with Yellow stuff pads at the front. These can handle track days, but 5.1 fluid still boils!

Clutch:

At the moment Walkers single plate paddle and uprated cover plate. Shall see if this handles it...

Doesn't have to be - not if everything is set up right. My kappa pushes out 400bhp and there's not the slightest hint of torque steer

For anyone with a healthy budget, Keith at Auto Integrale is doing an Ohlins suspension set up for the 20vt. Its not a diy job as each car is set up individually to the owners preferred compromise and all suspension settings are set for that particular car

But if its half as successful as his integrale Ohlins set-up it will be worth every penny (I haven't driven his Coupe yet)

Didn't know there was Öhlins dampers for the Coupe. Never used anything else than Öhlins on my motocross bikes.
It's a complete custom job?

Its a complete custom job. AI engaged Ohlins to do a set up for integrale Evo and it was that successful they have now engaged them to do the same for the Fiat Coupe

AI are currently building up a demonstrator Coupe 20vt - see www.auto-integrale.co.uk for more news and the Fiat Coupe newsletter

trev do you think keith could help me out, do you still have hubs and struts of the coupe you had, my idea is to try and use 20vt bits and see if the alignment is ok, this allows the use of better dampers.

sorry to hi jack fergie, hope it works out this time, I assume you are down the motech route.

No probs m8.

Unichip for now, but we shall see for how long...

It can control the larger injectors which is the main thing.
