Anyone who plays this, i would appreciate a few words of wisdom smile

Last night i began to play this on the xbox. Ive just dont the initial escape and im out into the big wide world it would seem. My main questions are how long until i begin to understand what on earth is going on? What am i supposed to be doing? Im hoping it all becomes a bit more obvious as i progress a little. Any tips and things to look out for may be much appreciated.
Its not a type of game i would normaly go for but ive heard so much about it i thought i would give it a go, and at the moment ive got to be honest i dont really know what im doing!

It took me a little while to get into it - the status screen gives you your current goals. If you don't know where you're meant to be going then click the "Show on map" button, set a marker, walk there and look for somebody with a little arrow hovering over their head.

To be honest, at the start of the game you're better off wandering around for a little bit in the wilderness. You might get killed (and you'll probably get sick of wolves attacking you every 2 minutes), but it means you'll find some locations, build up some key skills and probably get a couple of little side quests.

It might take 5 or 6 hours until you really get into it, but once you do it's very addictive. I was much the same as you at the start; not really a video games player and not sure what I had to do, but I've put in about 70 hours on the game now and I'm really hooked.

Thre is a 'main questline' which as you progress down, it will unveil more and more of the story, however you get the 'point' soon enough.

The problem is identifying which of the opening quests is the main questline. Also you dont want to just follow that becuase you gain so much necessaries experience and skills from doing all the various other side quests and bits and bobs you stumble onto, and if you just did the main questline you would get very frustrated by the dificulty level of the game, and how you dont seem to have and nice weapons, armour spells etc.

Yeah, the main quest line isn't that long. If I was playing again I'd follow it until the point where you first meet the grey-beards and then just go off and do side-quests.

If, like me, you've got no idea what you're doing then following the main quest will introduce some side-quests. So, for example, there's a point in the main quest where you have to visit the College at Winterhold, which will kick off the quest line associated with the College.

You can ignore that and carry on with the main quest, or, you can do as I'm doing and ignore the main quest for a bit and follow the Winterhold one (not sure how smart that was, it's a *tough* quest line).

The one bit of advice I'd give to new players is decide early on if you prefer to fight using weapons, magic or by sneaking around and trying to avoid direct confrontation. If you don't focus on one of those things you end up sort of OKish at everything, which can make some battles very tough.

Skyrim can be a bit overwhelming to start with

a lot depends how you want to play the game.
ie magic or just beat everything to death/ranged weapons or even a thief.like has been said.

i choose the kajhit so done the thiefs guild quest line. i also helped the people of whiterun before doing the main quest line. aswell as other small quest .

i have got good destruction/light armour/one handed weapons too so along with the high sneak/thief skills.
i just sneak up on my prey shout off with their head and hit them with a power attack not much stands in my way now.

other then dragons and few others . i did see my follower fly off into distance when i attacked giant and they got attacked as the giant couldnt see me. due to my armour and theif skills

I haven't got a clue, but when my son comes back from walking the dog I'll see what he has to say. He has had the game now since Christmas, and he still appears to be on with it; most games he buys he will finish before I've finished reading the instructions crazy . Must be an age thing!

I'm with you, Cheech - sneak is my highest skill (up to 75, as of last night). My destruction is somewhere in the mid 50s and everything else is nowhere, really.

As I'm playing a high elf I should probably have spent more time on magic, but I get by OK and only really struggle in fights where sneak isn't much good (fighting The Caller in the Winterhold quest line has been the toughest one to win so far).

ive got sneak onehanded and light armour all over 80 destruction is 60ish

i like the nightingale armour and sword , i cant be seen if sneaking and with sword charged up with soul gems i dont take much damage.

now im at point of being a game breaker , which i dont want to do .as my smithing enchant and alchemy are now also nearly up to 80 or higher. i built a armour set and weapon that could kill a dragon with one hit!

There is another sword with identical properties to the nightingale sword, using those two together duel-wielding and all you have to do is keep slashing away at people and you're pretty much invulnerable.

it seems to not matter which race you pick as you can level what skill you like .

for sure they start with different base skills , which helps for that role but you can make a orc a mage or a high elf a axe weilding psyhco

I too am enjoying this, I take turns in knocking off main quests interspersed with a few side ones here and there. I only recently sussed what I need to do with perks though. blush

I just learned tonight how to recharge magic items, dur.

But sneak still rocks - just took down my first Dragon Priest (Morokei) without him ever laying a finger on me.

Cheers guys. I played it for a fair while last night, and whilst i still havent got into any real understanding of storyline, i am at least controlling quite easily and leveling up and allocation the points etc. Life did get easier once i realised i could use my spare hand to fire magic!
Having read some of the comments above i have to ask what the different armours are about. Every time ive found better armour ive put it on. I just assumed this would be beneficial. Whats the benefit of staying in light armour?

Light armour allows you to move faster and make less/no noise. It can also be very strong as you become more skilled with it and the armour itself gets better.

It also has the benefit of being, well, light! so it takes up alot less space in your inventory.

However i think that ALL armour weights can eventually not cost you any inventory space once you level it up high enough and choose the appropriate perk (or whatever it's called).

I've also been sucked into this game in a big way!! I've completed the civil war and companions quest line, but still got lots to do n the main quest line, theives guild, mages guild, assassins guild. Also not picked up the bards guild quests atall, and also there are 15 daedric quests and I've only done 2!! This game is just so big!!!

Kev, to answer your question you have a maxiumum weight allowance you can carry. But if you have a companion you can get them to carry stuff for you too.

Also as you progress you'll get less magpie like about what you choose to pick up.

You'll end up with a lot of stuff which is too valuable to just drop, but not useful enough to lug around everywhere you go (especially dragon scales and dragon bones). The easiest way around this is to have some property you own, then you can store things in any chests/wardrobes/cabinets in that property.

In the main quest line as soon as you kill the first dragon at Whiterun you'll be allowed to buy property there (and, as luck would have it there's a house up for sale).

If you don't fancy spending 5,000 gold then as soon as you join the college at Winterhold (demonstrate a shout to them to get in) they'll give you a room, where you can also store your crap. If you're still quite low level I'd leave the college quest-line as soon as you've got your room - it gets very tough very quickly.

What makes this game so addictive? Have the creators tapped into part of the human-psyche somehow so gamers keep coming back?

I was thinking of getting it as I bought an Xbox360 for Christmas, but I don't like addictions.

I'm watching this - I don't do games, much - but I'm fascinated how close it is to the game in Stephenson's 'REAMDE'...

There is definitely an element of not wanting to leave things unfinished.

For example from the word go there is an over-arching mission thread, but very quickly you end up getting in the middle of other people's problems, or helping people, or joining a guild/faction etc, and before you know it you have 20+ 'quests' on the go.

So you are constantly thinking "i'll just complete this quest" only for, in the course of completing it, 3 more quests get added becuase you spoke to someone who needs some help with something/ read a note/book that shows the location of something etc.

So that urge to do "one more thing" quickly becomes a never-ending journey.

After not doing much with spare stuff apart from dumping on the floor in my house for weeks, last night I decorated it, put all my books on the bookshelves, put my my clothes/spare armour away, put ingredients next to my alchemy lab and tonight I may lay out all the plates on the table in neat rows to store any food that won't fit on the shelves. I wonder if there a fridge and larder that you can buy in this game? In all my years of playing computer games (and I am talking back to Hungry Horace etc) I have never spent time in a game doing non-essential household chores, do I need help?

I also wish I had a access to a rocket launcher and grenades sometimes. Or maybe even a chainsaw.

Go to Shearpoint and defeat the dragon priest there and you get a fairly awesome staff of fireball (although, not awesome enough to stop you kicking the ass of the dragon priest wielding it), if that helps.

If you don't know where Shearpoint is ask the grey-beards where you can find more shout words.

Is Dark Reach different to Black Reach? If they're the same place then I agree, it's fantastic. Quite a lot of Falmer knocking around, though.

@Truffle - I've gone sort of the opposite way. I'm on the penultimate installment of the main quest, but I've found I'd rather do some side quests for the time being, I'm in no hurry to complete the main quest. I've been knocking around Dawnstar, helping out the locals and being a good citizen. I'm about to go and find a razor that's been split into three bits, apparently.

I was in two minds about what to do at the end of the Waking Nightmare quest at Nightcaller temple (and even saved the game right before the final bit in case I changed my mind), but I went with doing the right thing, rather than grabbing the Daedra artifact.

Of course, this now means I can't collect all of the artifacts, but I'm sure I'll live without that particular trophey.

Same here, once I got round to unlocking all my equipment in Battlefield 3 after constant multiplayer I thought I would give Skyrim another go as I hadn't played it since Christmas. Now after getting past the intro and getting out into the main world I'm hooked and constantly boring Kim about what things I've discovered/battled against on my late night adventures lol laugh .

Currently I'm only at level 13 and just managed to kill Kvenel the Tongue in the Volunruud dungeon, after about an hour and a half of constant defeat I had to resort to the internet and found an easy way to kill him rolleyes . Next thing on my agenda is to get a house bought as I'm starting to collect a lot of stuff I don't want to throw away.

I can see this being a very long game cool .

I've been mainly hanging out in Windhelm for the past couple of nights. I've now firmly established myself as a sneaky character (sneak now in the high 80s), so to take advantage of this I need a really good dagger.

So I'm renting a room in Candlehearth Hall, buying iron ingots and leather strips from the blacksmith and forging daggers (up smithing skills), enchanting them (up enchantment), paying Sadri for training in speech (up speech skills) and then getting my money back by flogging him the enchanted daggers.

When I get bored with that little routine I pick up a side-quest in Windhelm, such as the White Phial (the hardest fight you'll ever have for 5 gold) or Blood on the Ice.

I also found Barbas the talking dog and did his quest. Jesus, is he annoying to have around or what? If my daughter hadn't been watching me finish off that little quest it would have been the axe for him, and no mistake.

I bumped into the headless horseman and followed him for a while, until his path led me into Labyrinthian and the frost trolls that live there. After that I lost interest in him smile

The headless Horseman takes you to a cemetery, then disappears. Other than a few skeletons there's nothing there of note sadly. Its just more of an "ooof cool" moment when you see him smile

Well I finally got my smithing and enchanting skills to the point where I was happy to improve and enchant my Elven dagger. I tested it out on the Repairing the Phial mission, which involves stealing powdered mammoth tusk from a giant camp.

Sneak in - sneak ups to 90.
Get right behind giant standing guard.
Save game.
Sneak power attack with Elven dagger and ... giant goes down in one hit.

I was very, very chuffed. Given the amount of time I spent running away from giants at low levels it was nice to be able to take one out with so little fuss. Took out his friend the same way and bagged some very nice loot smile

The thing is, I've spent about 3 evenings of play in Windhelm, and still haven't exhausted all of the quests from there, and that's just one location. It makes me wonder how many hours of play you have to put in to actually complete this game.

Dont forget there are 'unlimited' quests, so there are certain characters who will randomly generate quests for all eternity.

To spoil the myth, basically they'll tell you to goto X do Y come back and get money. Then Y will spawn at the appropriate location. Y would be books if its the mage librarian "there is an ancient book at X go there and, pick up Y and bring it back to me for a reward". In there Assassins guild there is someone who genererates 'kill' missions (with the target spawning in) and the thieves guild have a person who randomly generates 'steal' missions, (with the booty spawning in whichever characters pocket).

So dont get caught up like i did, continually doing mage librarian missions thinking "surely this quest line will end soon".

I knew there were the 'radiant' quests, but there are also so many 'proper' quest-lines. I've started on the thieves guild quests, the dark brotherhood quests and the civil war quests, but only just started on each of them. Plus, if Windhelm is anything to go by there are half a dozen or so proper quests for each town, and it's going to take a while to work through all of them.

I finally shut cod down yesterday and started playing (off work with for while with torn Cartlidge in my knee) and forgot how good this game is.

I'm developing my Mage and 2 handed skills. Sneaking or stealing isnt my thing. Speech is quite strong so can usually persaude people.

I'm only level 10. And just bought my house. My next main plot line is to visit the greybeards.

Question about enchanting items - how do I do it?

Disenchant an item, then build a new item then enchant it? Does one disenchant only allow me to encant one item?

Disenchanting an item teaches you an enchantment, which you can then apply to as many items as you wish.

Your enchantment skill determines how strong the enchantment will be.

Each enchantment also requires a filled soul gem, which is destroyed in the process (other than black gems, which are just emptied). The strength of the soul gem determines how many charges the enchanted item will have.

Edited to add: When you enchant an item you also have the opportunity to rename it, hence I am armed the mighty Bow of Pointy Thing firing smile

Another tip for soulgems

A quest called shrine of Auzra .
You have to get a item back there is 2 ways to end it , I did the ending so you get the Black star its a ever lasting black soul gem. Also black soul gems are rare.

You can increase enchanting items not only by leveling the perk , of which the first part of skill tree for that perk you can upgrade 5 times to give higher %.

By making other Items for enchanting ie gloves hat ring neckless. You will find other items too.
Wear all these items before enchanting wished item.

You can even make potions to gain higher %.
Same for alchmey . you make it drink it then make again and so on . then make enchant potion and enchant items and wear them and then enchant again.
But be warned you can make armour and weapons so good , it will be game breaker

I'm trying to tidy up a few other quests first. His barking is well annoying.

Also, how do you purchase items for your house ?

I've spoken to the steward of whiterun and it's not coming up as an option.

Don't know that one, but why bother with a house? If you're a mage then join the college at Winterhold and they'll give you a free room with plenty of storage space.

Although I did have a bit of a panic when I made it to Arch-mage of the college, in case they gave away my old room and I lost all of my stuff, but it seems to stay as your room, even after you've been elevated.

I had to buy a house - myself and my companion were carrying too much stuff. Plus I completed fallout 3 and I just kept everything I found.

I will head up to winter hold as soon as I've completed all the local missions.

Right well i've been playing pretty solidly this weekend and i've been doing the Whiterun Challenge (as i call it).

Going between the two forges building iron daggers and leatehr helmets, then upto the enchanter in Dragonsreach to give them basic enchantments, then selling these items back to the enchanter, and the various smithys, merchants, whoever i can.

I then intersperse this with trips to the river side to kill mud crabs, foxes, elks etc with my "Pointy Stick of Souls" to fill up soul gems for the next round of enchanting.

I am now at Level 53 and have 100 Smithing, 84 Enchanting and have 3 level up 'perks' queued up waiting for when i get my enchanting level to 100.

(i dont want to use them now on enchanting 'perks' or all my home made weapons will become to expensive for me to sell easily)

Your level is not really a badge(to tell whether you're ready) rather it keeps the playing field level by having an affect on the game.

As you level up, so the enemies you meet get stronger. (ie, at the start when you meet undead characters they are usually skeletons and easier draugr, now i cant go in a tomb without it being full of draugr magelords!

So dont worry about your level, just make sure you have a good weapon, armour, health potions and you'll have no worries.

I'm in a slightly awkward place at the moment becuase i have been levelling up so quickly as i improved my smithing and enchanting skills, that the enemies have gotten tricky again.

So its back to the hack n slashing, to bring up the one handed and armour skills.

Just had a frustrating afternoon of Skyrim, doing the quest to get rid of pirates for the East Empire Trading Co.

The quest seems full of bugs - if you try to climb out of the sea near where the pirate ship is docked, or fall off that pier you get stuck in a little gap in the rocks from which there is no escape other than waiting for somebody to kill you or re-loading a saved game.

After you've completed the objective of killing the battle-mage the person you're supposed to report back to won't speak to you until you've killed all of the pirates (the job she's meant to be doing).

When I finally got her to talk to me she took me back to Windhelm, and then kept asking if I was ready to head back. Getting out of that conversation I reported to the EET Co. office, only to have the person I was supposed to be speaking to act as if I'd just broken in (I hadn't the door was unlocked when I went there), then calling the guards.

With every guard in Windhelm on my tail I decided to make a run for it, but as I got outside Windhelm a dragon spawned. I decided to fight it, as the Windhelm guards, faced with the choice of taking down the dragon who was flaming their city or catching somebody accused of breaking and entering, decided I was the priority target.

To make matters worse, when I drew a weapon to attack the dragon the system seemed to assume I was attacking the guards, and upped my Windhelm bounty by 1,000 gold. So with a dragon in front of me and every guard in Windhelm at my back I went down pretty damn quickly.

Bloody annoying thing, the autosave has me in a crappy position just outside Windhelm, so I'm going to have to go back to halfway through the pirate quest and hope that everything works second time around.

Grrrr!

Ok word of advice people.

When those voice people tell you to get the word at Valskygge, you tell them go DO ONE!

Flippin eck that was difficult! A huge series of cavens and tombs with everything in it. You fight your way all the way to the top, and then face the most difficult MageLord thingy that i've encountered so far.

Then i found you could just run up the hillside and cut all that goign through the ruins in the first place! grr

Ok - ended up going into Volskygge - was about 2300 and thought I'll clear out this bandit camp thing then head to bed.

Haha - its not that simple or easy.

Ended up with a magic mask though.

That was my first real challenge. That draugr at the end and then the Mage. I'm only lv 15, so that would explain it.

Ok - as mentioned elsewhere as Im pretty much housebound with my knee, I've been playing skyrim - a lot!!

Up to lv 31 now. 2 things I'd like to mention to help those looking to progress

1. Find kesh at the perite shrine and complete the quest - spell breaker has been invaluable for me.
2. Don't enter kilkereath temple unless your ready for a major fight - plus dawnbreaker isnt that good a reward in my opinion.

As a side I got the staff of chain lighting from someone, might have been a dragon priest, and that combined with some high level destruction magic is a lethal combination against most. I just find my follower constantly getting in the way though.

How the rest of you guys getting on?

Ross

Ps I still haven't finished the horn quest for the greybeards, as I'm too busy trying to finish side quests which are like the hydras heads - finish 1 and another 2 pop up.

I'm on level 38, with a sneak score of 100 and a smithing score of 71, which means I can make enchanted glass daggers, so I can take down most things with one hit.

Busy working my way through the Thieves Guild quests at the moment. I started on the civil war quest-line, but reached a point where I needed to talk to the same NPC as I need to in order to continue the main quest line, and all they want to talk to me about is the main quest.

I completed the "In the mind of madness" quest to end up with the Wabbajack - now there's a weapon that makes for some strange fights. Most of the time though I go with sneak dagger attacks, or if there are a lot of enemies in one place I tend to send in a fire or storm atronach.

My top-tip; when you start on the civil war quest line don't be too quick to join up with the 'cool' rebels of the Stormcloaks - Ulfric's a bit of a nobber and I now wish I'd picked the Imperial side.

Oh, my other tip is always carry a lot of lock-picks (50+) - it's very frustrating to make it through a huge dungeon (and I'm thinking particularly of the Dwemner ruins here) and then find a master level locked door or chest near the bottom, only to have to leave it because you don't have enough lock-picks to open it.

Ok, level 60 here, 100 in:

Light Armour,
Single handed wepaons
Archery
Enchanting
Smithing
Lockpicking
Sneak

(probably some more that i cant think of)

My top tops are:

In every shop, buy as many arrows and lockpicks that they sell. They dont weigh anything but they give the seller lots of money (as they often have 50-100+ arrows) which you can then use to sell them all the other rubbish you've picked up along the way.

Get or make an ebony bow, upgrade it (to legendary or epic) then enchant it with a health absorb spell and a soultrap. Fantastic at single shot killing all sorts of people at distance and keeps a nice fuel line of souls coming in for your other weapons.

Also, go with single handed weapons, then use the perks to unlock beefed up duel wielded attacks. I can now walk into any room with my 2 health absorbing swords and just hack n slash my way through anything.

I've now reached a point where there are no more 'big' quests for me, it's all help bob out with his plumbing or pop to the shops for Mrs Green. So i think i'll be whittling down my play time. I still have about 4 'words' to find though to complete my collection, but the greybeards have stopped telling me where to find them!

Hi truffs.

Good bit of advice there - cheers.

I have about 25% of the map still to explore. Im still trying to complete as many side quests as possible but example - complete the man who cried wolf. Get courier next time in white run telling me there is an issue and I need to return so that's not finished and there is another few things to sort as well. Bloody good game but - apart from the lack of treasure chests - known glitch based on forum help sections.

Still loving the game and progressing well. Without giving any storylines away, does the game ever actualy have an ending as such does anyone know? Its just ive never heard of anyone finishing it and now theres comments of quests being regenerated infinite times.

Erm...I guess there isnt really.

I mean there is an end to the main 'problem' but, as they say, life goes on.

I completed the story months ago and i'm still wandering round finding places i havent been to yet. (although i did have a 1 month break from playing).

Finally found all the Words! The last couple were hiding places i visited early on in the game before i was taught all the voice stuff.

Now i need to kill 7 more dragons to unlock them.

I also have a full set of Enchanted Dragon armour which i've made. laugh

I'm busy doing the Nightingales quest line at the moment, so hopefully the nightingale armour will soon be mine. Currently ridding the world of Falmer.

Right, well i think i'm done with Skyrim now. I've just spent the last few days of my game time wandering round the map looking for places i havent been to yet as i have nothing else to do really.

A little tip:

I cant remember exactly where (but i think it was around the south-east corner of the map) There is a deadric cult which you have to sacrifice a 'follower' to join.

By follower i mean one of those people you can hire to be like a pack mule for you.

Once you do this the deadric lord tells you to go on a quest . Complete this quest and you get a full set of Ebony armour as reward (the strongest armour apart from Dragonplate) which is also enchanted with two cool spells.

1. Eminates Poison: All enemies with a short distance of you automatically start taking damage. This doesnt affect people when you're in towns or whatever, it only affects those people who are recognised as enemies (red dots on the compass).

2. Super Sneak: It makes you practically invisible, I had 100 sneak but still found this armour made me even harder to see, i could pretty much sneak through any room regardless of line of sight or lighting.

This armour came in very handy whilst i was wandering around finding those last few words and killing dragons to make my own armour.

Ross, have you done enough of the main quest-line to get the Dragonrend shout? You have to keep hitting the dragon with it to keep them on the ground, because you don't stand a chance when they're in the air.

I normally whip up a storm or flame atronach to keep them busy and then blast them with fireballs.

Yeah Elder dragons are a bitch, Keep em on the ground and try to stay to their side and just slash away at their wing.

If the dragon keeps trying to turn to face you, leg it before it can eat you and get behind a tree or rock to block its frosty menthol fresh breath.

Let it fly up a bit, hit it with Dragonrend then get in position to its side before it lands and repeat.

I removed Skyrim from my PC last night.

Splitter!

I completed the thieves' guild quest-line last night, with a bit of an anti-climax...

Click to reveal..
I was expecting Mercer to be a really tough fight, especially after the legions of Falmer you have to fight through to reach him.

Got to the chamber where he was nicking the eyes from the statue, he set Karliah and Brynjolf fighting each other and I scampered up to the ledge at the neck of the statue, where Mercer is when you first enter the chamber, hoping that it would take him a second to find me and I could get a few sneak-attack arrows in.

I lost him, and then realised he'd turned invisible, so I summoned a flame atronach roughly where he was to dish some damage. When she flamed him I could clearly see him, but he didn't move or attack either me or my flame-lady, he just stood there as she pelted him with fireballs and I stuck a few arrows in his back and that was it, all over.

So, the main baddy never laid a finger on me.

On a side note, it's a real shame that Karliah isn't one of the NPCs that you can marry in the game ... she has a *sexy* voice.

One weird thing that is bugging (pun not originally intended) me is that every now and again I get a quest that doesn't clear from my to do list (PS3 FWIW).

For example I cleared the Red Eagle sword quest ages ago but it stayed in my list until I went through the (now mostly empty) dungeon again. Retracing my steps worked to clear that one but in the "Kill the Hargraven Petra" quest, I've killed her and can go back and clearly see her corpse but no amount of stabbing her again clears the quest from my to do list. I haven't tried dragging her body outside yet which I may do if I get bored one night. Maybe drag it behind me around the whole map until the quest item clears.

I've just had a quest similar to that last night. I can't remember which one it was but when I got to the "boss" baddie it just stood there without making any attack towards me whilst I turned it into a pin cushion with arrows. I did have a helper and some demon thing (I can't remember what it's called but the thing that the Sanguine Rose summons) distracting it but even so.

I have the same issue (also on PS3). I have a miscellaneous quest item to investigate the college at Winterhold, despite having completed the entire college quest-line.

I also have the mission active where you have to collect the 24 gems (I forget what they're called) which has an uncompleted objective, "Become a full member of the thieves' guild", although again I've completed the thieves' guild quest-line.

It is very annoying as I'm the kind person that likes to tick off every item their to do lists! This could seriously affect my sanity.

Well i finaly finished the main quest and what i would consider to be all the main side bits. Was a little disapointed at the end to be honest.
Has anyone purchased the expansion pack with all the new quests etc on it? Is it worth the money?

I've got no idea what skyrim is, but it sounds like Dungeons and Dragons minus the 64-sided dice, so I say stop now before your inner nerd takes you over completely. Just leave it alone and get a grip of yourselves. Nerds.

Waaay better than that although it does have a fair bit of geekiness to it. Come in the water's lovely, embrace your inner nerd, you know you want to. laugh

I finished the main quest a couple of months ago and pretty much stopped playing immediately. I did find the last mission a bit too easy. The main one for was the first battle with Alduin (a couple of main quest missions beofre the end) as I spent ages giving up on that one before getting it sorted. I haven't bothered with the expansion pack but have just this week started dipping my toes into the normal game again to tidy up some side missions.

PS. There is no 64-sided die, so far as I know. D&D used 4-, 6-, 8-, 10-, 12- and 20-sided dice. Manufacturers later brought out a 30-sided dice, but I don't know of any game system that ever used it (although, naturally, I have one).

There was also a 100-sided die produced (rather pointlessly, as two 10-sided dice serve just as well), but there were always questions about just how random it was, so few people ever bought or used them.

PPS. Naturally you could used two 8-sided dice to simulate a 64-sided dice roll, but:

a) It would be a little confusing, as 8-sided dice were numbered 1-8, while 10-sided dice were, typically, numbered 0-9.

b) You'd have to be reasonably good at converting octal to decimal in your head.

c) I'm guessing that, while you've got your socks on, numbers over 10 are a bit of a struggle for you.

A trio of excellent posts!!!

If we had forum Oscars I'd nominate you!!!

As for skyrim, I've been off work for 6 weeks and not put it in once. I think I'm trying to do too many side quests and not enough main quests. Struggling to kill dragons and all side quests now have dreadlord draugers at every corner.

Might put it back on though, shame it's back to work tomorrow .....

Just to bring this thread back from the dead ... looking for something to do last night I wandered into the Playstation store and found that the Skyrim DLC Dawnbreaker and Dragonborn are up for £6.49 each.

I couldn't resist and got myself Dawnbreaker and, so far, it seems really good. Getting the pair of them for £13 seems like a good deal, adding a whole load of new quests, enemies and items to revitalise the game.
