Up until yesterday i'd been fine with the thought of selling my coupe. But giving it it's final wash last night brought home how much i'm going to miss owning not just this coupe, but any coupe. It's going to be the first time in 6 years that i'm coupe-less and I don't like it! I bought a 1.8 MK2 MX5 a couple of weeks ago which has been an absolute blast. Having the roof down, the gearchange, the dynamics, the RWD are all great fun..... but..... I miss being in a coupe! Not just for the awesome power when the turbo gets going, or for the noise, but just for being in a coupe! My girlfriend always mentioned how she noticed people always looked round it, i'm pretty sure it wasn't down to the cloud of blue smoke it developed, but due to the fact no-one knew what the loud dump-valving beast actually was!! To top it off, I accepted a job offer yesterday that involved a decent salary increase......... maybe I could have kept the car instead of selling it for just over what my first garage bill cost.... And don't even mention this year's trip to Spa.....

I was going to sell mine but have decided to get another year out of her. Im putting fresh skirts and Le Lips on so she will be close to mint and mechanically she is sorted at close to 300 horses with uprated brakes and suspension. I looked at what id get for the old girl and then what id be giving up if sold. Was looking at an s2000 had use of an mx5 mk 1 which made me realise you can have fun with much less power, The s2000 idea as a total change for a sharper driver focused b road fun as opposed to the sheer grunt of the 20vt which although goes round bends brilliantly does not give the chassis feel of some much lesser powered cars.. for now though i figured id miss the coupe too much, feel of speed and noise and eventually I store it and but another second car out right.

Haha Jonny came round last weekend to see the MX5 and I can safely there is no way he's getting in - not even with the world's biggest shoehorn!! As much as it pains me Spa is a 'no go' this year - but who knows what'll happen next year once i start earning some decent money! But anyway, the car got picked up this lunchtime by a nice guy who seems to love his coupes! So I hope it treats him well and gives him as much fun as I had with it! Here was my beloved 16vt; Me and Jonny at the Nurburgring with my 20v VIS; Then me and Jonny with my 20vt on the Stelvio Pass last year; And my current squeeze....

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh right, its been a rumour the last 3 years that you were the butch partner of the 2. Nice one for clearing that up for us mate. Make sure you stay on here Nick, hope to see you in a coupe soon if theres any left. May i just stress that im 6''2 and Nick is taller than me so Jonny must be 7ft+ in that picture.

Nick, think you should keep a look out for a minter to keep. Have had mine for 5 years now (you seen it about 4 years ago i think) now undergoing a semi concourse resto and plan on keeping for good although the prices of good pluses or LE's seam tempting, this has been a good one and being the 2nd owner upto now has persuaded me to stick with her.
Good luck.
Peter.

I see why you need the MX5 in your life... but it can't replace the coop, so why not have both? My MX5 was only £800, it might not be pretty but it delivers on the fun front and doesn't take up any of my time being washed...ever!

I don't know you guy's but you should do a whole series of these pictures. Deadpan faces and thumbs up with random cars. Brilliant. They would make a fab calender Funny you should say that, but that's our standard holiday snap pose!! Spa 2011; and Spa 2010; I'd love to run 2 cars, but at the moment it's not possible. Not just because I can't afford it, but I don't have the space where I currently live. Although with me taking this new job we may be moving house to the outskirts of Leeds - and I've said my only criteria is that the house needs a decent size garage and an outdoor hosepipe! So I *might* return next year! And there's no need for the in-built hairdryer mod - my head sticks above the roofline as it is! Might be going to my first 'novice drift day' at silversone in the coming months.......

Peter. Yea I remember coming to see your car all those years ago Peter - I always regretted not buying those leather seats of you! Glad you hear your coupe is still going strong!

I've had a fair few performance cars over the years and only got rid of an overweight 3.5l V6 in the form of a Le Mans orange Nissan 350Z in January.
You guys own one of the best kept secrets in the car world! Is there any nicer place to be than inside a one of Pininfarina's finest works of art? Well I'm yet to find one.
I love my new coop, they have something cars made in the 2000s can't compete with, genuine character! And although it would be touch and go - I'm pretty sure that when dropped into third, the coop would leave the 350Z trailing. Nobody batted an eyelid at my 350Z, even though it was orangey/gold, I can't believe that kids stop and point at these 90s wonders as you drive along in it. I guess some have simply never seen one before in their young lives.
All in all, what a motor! Anyway Darlo_Nick, at least the MKII MX5 has character too, although a mate tells me it is all mostly lost after that edition.
