Im still toying with the idea of bolting on a mini couper s Eaton M40 supercharger onto my car. Its been done with a 20v NA engine before on a Fiat marea.

My question is, is there much difference between the NA and Turbo engine? Would it be correct to say the 20VT engine is "stronger" dare i use that word?

The eaton m40 isnt a massive supercharger and should bring the NA up close to the BHP of a Turbo my concern is putting too much strain on the engine.

Any comments . . . .

Cheers

Mario

this sounds like a very interesting project...
any ideas on costs?
do you have to lower the compression ratio to fit a supercharger? or did i dream that i had heard that somewhere?

have a read guys (thanks for the article marco)

http://www.fiatforum.com/marea/152914-exclusive-worlds-only-20v-supercharged-marea.html

This guy has supercharged a marea with a Fiat 20v NA Engine

Price wise i will be going for a
Mini Cooper S Eaton E45 supercharger - they fetch about £100 on ebay second hand with low mileage.

I will also need FMIC, dump valve, hoses, metal to make the brackets etc etc. Going to be an interesting project that i will be working on with marco. once it starts i will move over to the projects thread.

Sorry for not replying sooner, I'll post some picks of the brackets in a bit (if I can find them)

Again, also interested in the compression ratio differences. I know the valves are sodium coted or filled on the 20vt to help with heat and strength

is the bottom end on a 20v and 20vt the same?

that guy has a great project, he lives local to me, the only bit that consurns me is the lack of mapping and fuling. as well as complete lack of any boost control

I strongly suspect thats why he has moved on to car number two

Hi, by the time I finished the car, it was running a dastek unichip B
without the unichip the car actually ran to rich
reason for the new car is sleeper all the way, plus supercharged and turbocharged.
Boost is controlled by the size of the pulleys

I would put a 20VT head on if you're going to supercharge as the 20VT has better timed cams for it and also sodium filled exhaust valves.

You are likely to get quite a lot of blow by - these engines get quite oval bores in non-turbo form, so with that sort of mileage it will not work very well (Discussed previously)
