Hi people is there any way of telling if my wishbones are knackered or not? thanks

There will be play in ball joints and/or bushes.

Your tyres may wear unevenly and the car may feel bad to drive.

There could be visual damage/degradation.

It's just the car feels awful to drive i wanted to confirm this though no play in ball joints as only just passed MOT?

It doesn't matter, I've never found a MOT to be a good indication of a cars condition. It's really hard for a bloke and a pry bar to apply a cars worth of force.

The ball joints may be fine. The bushes may be soft. It wouldn't fail a MOT but would give wayward handling.

In my experience it's rarely just one item if the car feels awful.

Hard to say. I assume that there are no noises? My first guess would be bushes on the wishbones/top mounts and drop links.

When you say it feels awful are we talking it crashes over bumps or that it wanders around centre and steering feels vague?

Yes bouncing around alot ,wandering over to the left ,and when steering it just feels like im driving something from the 60s its hard to explain

I agree with Szkom. It's worth changing the track rod ends, arb drop links and wishbones. They're relatively easy to do if you're good with the spanners. Two of those items have ball joints which wear out over time.

The top mount bearings wear out as well, but are slightly harder to change due as you need to compress the spring to swap them out safely.

Swap out those four things and it will change the handling of your car.

Again, purely a guess as I haven't driven the car but it may be worth looking at your shocks also.

Look for leaking and do the bounce test (i.e push down to compress the spring, let go and watch what it does. It should rise and fall then settle).

Check your tyres and their pressures.

Check your rear sub frame bushes and trailing arm bearings.

It's really hard to say for sure. I'd start with the wishbone bushes (use a pry bar to lever the arm outwards from the sub frame. It will be really obvious if they are worn/soft).

Gunzi, what I noticed on mine was that the rack ends were shot as well as my track rod ends. The car was approx 80K at that time.

I think all the Coupe wishbones are the same. There are however shorter one available for the lower engined Bravos which are not obviously different at first glance and will bolt up.

Euro car parts are doing 25% off atm. They will do 90% of the parts you need. I believe that Joe (countrycruising) stocks the rear sub frame bushes.

But before you splash the cash take a couple of hours to poke around and lever at bushes/balljoints. You may get lucky and find a lose bolt?

Another thing that has the same symptoms is a broken spring. Take a close look at those - they seem to break near the bottom so a bit harder to spot if you are not specifically looking for it.
