Saxo VTS stripped out would be cheap to run, cheap to buy and reasonably quick.

Coopless!

I had meant to suggest that you might have to go over the wet to find a left hooker, but I forgot the boss walked in...

Bear in mind the dc5 in video is running 250 r888's and is quicker than e46m3's after 60mph.

Forget vts

172 drivers remark '

'1st video up,it was at the end of the day, chasing a well driven Integra type R,I was struggling to keep with him on the straights, but was enjoying myself, this to me is what track days are all about.'

Ok been scoping but been offered a track puma.
Fitted with coil overs, race seat, harnesses, updated brakes with tax and test for £450. Sound decent to me but never driven a puma. Assume it's similar to a fiesta.. Any reviews guys

I'd second what George said here.

I had one for a year, only sold in August. Was a 1.4 but top handling, nippy and the brakes are surprisingly good too. Rear arches the major failing - if they've been done make sure it's a decent job or the problem will just keep coming back.

I do love my mk2 golf gti, had a brace of vr6 engined ones...quick...but I would say the puma would be a better track car...much better handling in my opinion...and do rusty arches matter on a track day special...

I had a clio 1.8 16v with a 172 engine dropped in. Was alot of fun on track but not a car i could use at weekends and i couldnt justify having a car sitting around purely for trackdays so i sold it and brought a coupe 20vt with mods.

Just hoping its going to be as fun as the clio when i get it on track!

Erm........no, not unless you want to spend a fortune on suspension.

Also MGZS V6 - will be a little over a grand though. They handle very well out of the box, and are lighter than you might think.

I'd personally go with a k powered 45 if that was the chosen route. Bolt the role bars over and you've pretty much got a zs for a fraction of the cost. The 1600 motor is revvy and plentiful. Also quite a scene for tuning them.

Sorry - that's B*ll.

ZS has uprated ARB's, stiffer springs (a lot stiffer, and designed to be hard at the rear to reduce understeer) + 20mm lower, better seats for track days, and revised steering rack. (quicker + more feel).

45 is for wafting about in comparison. smile

How does a 300bhp fiat coupe lowered and sticky tyres compare to the above cars on track?

Would be nice to get a comparison from someone that has done a trackday in a coupe with medium upgrades.

I do know there's a difference. But I stand by my comment. Take the roll bars from a zr and bolt them on and you're largely there. A 45 will cost a couple of hundred quid. That leaves a good chunk of cash left for fettling.

Are you sure the steering racks are "quick"? My understanding was that the v6 just has a lock limiter, i.e. quicker lock to lock because it moves less.

Definitely a standard 45 would be pants though.

Pretty sure the rack is different, and by the time you have done the suspension and seats you may as well have just bought a zs v6 with more power that will work well as it is. smile
