Just take the dump valve out... I'm running without one. Mind you, it still sounds chavvy and I'm 57 Me too, although I don't think the pigeon sounds chavvy! Winner winner chicken dinner

Now, while i've takled some basic car mechanics (changed brake discs/pads etc) what level is adding a dump valve? Also, what even IS a dump valve other than a joyous noise maker? So to even bring this slightly back on topic.. The 20vt already has a bosch recirculating dump valve. You can buy valves which dump to atmosphere which is what gives the 'tshhh' sound on gear change. Bailey motorsport do a DV26 which is what some people have used in the past. Swapping dump valves is pretty simple and if you can change a brake pad then this should prove no problem. The purpose of the recirculating valve is to redirect the compressed air back when the throttle is closed back into the intake path before the turbo's compressor wheel to help keep it spinning. Without it you would stall the turbo and potentially cause damage to the compressor blades. Now we can go back to talk about old fat baldy blokes...

That also Motocoupe you can quite happily run without a dump valve and cause compressor surge for that rally esque turbo flutter Compressor surge won't do any harm to a car turbo though it will just make a noise there's a bit of an urban myth that it will destroy your turbo fast but in reality it won't there's simply not enough pressure produced by a car turbo to cause damage when it stalls, whereas the turbine side is subject to far higher abuse all the time. centrifugal compressors are rugged little gits in nature of design Compressor surge is only going cause damage to something like a gas turbine engine that is starting compressing from at least 15 BAR up to 40+ BAR lol then things can go horribly wrong. But yeah as said its just heresy this surging damaging a turbo many HGVS run without Dump Valves and they do a couple hundred thousand per turbo at least anyone who's heard a Dutch Scania will know lol The only things that will damage a turbo during its lifetime on your vehicle is poor maintenance, poor cooling, poor lubrication , debris in the system , thermal shock and criminal damage ie hitting it with a hammer haha

Ok, well hopefully I can hold off the balding for now! (26!) Is there a guide anywhere for how to do this? Is it as simple as locating the bosch one and replacing it with a DV26? Cheers!

Yep. It's a simple job to do. Shouldn't take more than half an hour. don't pay more than £81 for it! http://www.baileymotorsport.co.uk/PDF/2011_retail_pricelist.pdfI suspect they'll go for £40 or so. The dv26 fits all sorts of cars so appeal is wide.

[quote=bradthe16vt] Motocoupe, who has posted in this thread, is only 20 and has just bought a 20VT, so young people do buy them. Nothing against younguns by the way. I was one once, a looooooong time ago! Also, I'm sure he's got no spots and isn't a chav. JBT will attest I am not a chav Ah yes I bought a 20v VIS which was a hoot to drive then after incident involving overcooked corner and a earth bank thats history. but then I was hooked on coupes. so decided to buy a 20vt to replace it. The insurance is crippling as a 20 year old but is cheeper to insure the turbo than the VIS. (Probably because its going to spend more time off the road than on)
