well done skinflint wink

Are those times all from your watch in the half marathon?

as your 5 k time could be much quicker if you were 5k pace all the time.

Do you enjoy the half marathon rather than the shorter quicker base pace than the 5&10k's?

I'm doing the Great South Run at the end of October and then Hell Down South a week (or possibly two) after.

I haven't trained for ages frown

Y'know, coming from someone who hasn't done any running (well, any more than three steps and flyyyy!) for forty years... it seems logical that as we're apparently evolved as a cursorial hunter - one which runs more slowly than the prey but which can keep it up for a lot longer - then you might expect the foot to have evolved to a pretty good shape to manage the expected loads on it when running. And if that's the case, then you would really only need something to account for the fact that a life with shoes and socks removes the hard pad on the bottom of the foot - hence the huaraches.

There's only one half marathon time that I set back in April. My 5k pace is fairly consistent if the Nike+ stuff is accurate. I do prefer the longer runs.

That Hell Down South race looks totally horrendous.
Good luck with it!

Those Huaraches would be great for something like a Parkrun where you're running on gravel trails. I reckon the weight saving alone would shave minutes off your time.

On this general theme, that Zombie run is £40. (£13 per mile)
The Reading Half Marathon is £33 (£3 per mile)
The Ride London event is £48 (50p per mile)
The Parkrun is free, but it is only 5k

I appreciate that the money goes to charity, but is competitive sport starting to exclude people with lower disposable incomes?

Isn't it meant to be something that everyone can participate in?

Yeah but I love zombie films. Being chased by them through woods would be awesome, in a scary kinda way!

If you run for charity in the London marathon, most ask that you raise at least £1500. That's around £58 per mile!

Are you more of a Shaun of the Dead or a Return of the Living Dead kind of runner?

There are quite a lot of these midnight / Halloween runs that happen around this time of year too.

Just done the Great South Run route (10 miles) in 1hr25m. Pretty happy with that considering I haven't trained at all.

That's really good, it took me 1h 22m to do 8 miles last Sunday.

I did a new 5k PB on Wednesday, 27m 44s, although I wasn't that tired at the end so might have to start pushing harder if I want to set a better time. I wasn't trying to go fast, just training for my half-marathon on 28th Oct.

Good luck Jas,
I'm doing the Tadley 10 mile this morning - just waiting for the ice to melt off the car.

Well, completed the half marathon in a very disappointing 1:43.23. First few miles were great & I was very comfortable keeping up with a girl aiming for a 1:35 but then my left calf muscle gave up & I had to battle to the finish with very odd sensations rippling up & down my left leg. I was convinced at one point I would be retiring from the race with an injury. The last 3 miles were hell but I fought the temptation to give up & stop. Crossed the line in a right state - nearly passed out initially, but fighting the cramps kept me conscious. Even 45 mins after the finish I was still getting them. One of those 'why do I do this to myself?' days but you can't win them all. Next year will be better...

I think that's a fine achievement. I'd love to do a HM in 1:43.
I hope it isn't a lingering calf injury.

I guess I'm wiser (but not faster) after cooking my legs at 8 miles today trying not to give up a position.

Finish time was 1:19:10. Could have been quicker and a lot more comfortable with a bit of restraint.

LOL 1h43m a disappointing time?? I'd be chuffed to break 2 hours! I reckon I'll be on for around 2h10m for the half-marathon at the end of the month.

I don't think I'm built for running smile

Is anyone planning to blow the dust off the trainers for the New Year?
I hope to do a 45 minute 10k, a 1:45 half marathon, and a 20 minute 5k this year.

Did a 10 mile TT yesterday.
Temp 2 deg. C with 16-30mph winds from the W.
4th/18 so a a good start.
Winner 26.07, me 28.07, lanterne rouge 38.39

Why run when you can cycle?

That's a good result. What do you do about black ice and frost when you're going all out like that?

I bet 10 mile TTs are like 5k runs - short enough that you're working uncomfortably hard.

Maybe we need a similar "Cycling TT/ Sportive Thread" with the same kind of focus on performance.

Cheers, it's very much a SPOCO (sporting course). The verges were a tad white but TBH I just nailed it (max 39.68mph).
Good leg and lung opener though with recovery drinks and footstuffs at the Bucks Head after ..

Is anyone still running?
I'm just preparing for the Reading Half Marathon in 2 weeks by doing lots of short 5k runs to improve the pace with the odd 10k / 10 mile.
Dreaming of a sub- 1:45 time but still a fair bit of improvement needed over the coming weeks to achieve it.

Ran 5k this morning at the Forest of Dean Parkrun.
The ground has dried up nicely so not quite the wallying for the past few months! Had a nasty trip/fall but recovered intact. Time was a gentle 28mins.
