I meant to ask whilst there picnickers, what commentary if any? Was said about the Coupe before or whilst we were running? A little difficult to hear over wind noise and engine revs wink

Hi Ross,
we had an excellent day - many thanks for your efforts in organising things smile and it was fantastic meet other club members and put a name and face to a username - I think our little paddock certainly had the best turnout and setup.

The aircraft which made it were still great, and I have never seen the top of a Chinook from the ground before ! As you know the Picknickers had a runway run of our own, and got to go around the TopGear test track twice. During our slightly more sedate run, I have to admit that I got a bit of the red haze, and overtook the three cars in front....Ok so it was only a Triumph Spitfire, a Vitesse and a Land Rover, but I still "ad em" evil

I have a few photos and will post them as soon as I can.

Mark

Good to meet new faces and much cheerfulness despite the most miserable meteorological conditions. One thought I had was that if the aviators didn't like the conditions they could have had 'endless' speed runs for all and timed circuits of the Top Gear test track! Disappointing for the organisers, traders and particularly to people that had paid to go to what otherwise must be a great day out.

Undeterred we'll give it another go next year and hope to see you then. Thanks to Ross for his organisation, see some of you next weekend for Honnington.

I'm still here today and the weather is better. Just been to the wheels zone and our spot we had yesterday is full of granadas! Lots more people here today, maybe due to the weather really. I have a good video on my phone of the speed runs. The commentator was basically saying, here we have a fiat coupe, a bit ordinary looking but has a jet engine and goes very quick. Not sure about the looks bit. Our jack feels a bit sad that we're not "part of the show" today. Parked with joe public! I'll get the video posted when I can work out how to get it from the phone.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, a bit ordinary looking! Now that's the only time I've EVER heard that. But they are quick, that's for sure. I assume his comment comes from the noise of the exhausts whistling as they zoom by >>>>>>> laugh
Glad to hear it's busier today, I assume there was an awful lot more in the wings dept today?

Quite honestly would you expect any different comment from a commentator who gave the pre-track briefing standing on the seat of his pre-war 3 litre Bentley which had been pulled up specially for the occasion?

At least for the (lack of) flying display we did not get last year's commentator, who by his own accounts had ether owned one. flown one, or was a personal chum of any one who had piloted any other type.

Here is the new car footage from the day. You might want to turn the volume down due to the microphone getting wet during the day.

Great video, you're coupe must be the one with the jet engine.

I'm going to post this up in the technical section too, just had a rather sobering experience. After doing 5 runs up the runway, one of 130mph and then the hours drive home on a busy M25 i got back in the coupe this evening to take a very short trip to the local service station to get a McD's. All was well as i set off, a little blast between high wycombe to beaconsfield services, upon slowing down for the exit a worrying knocking started and got worse rapidly, i slowly rolled to a stop halfway up the sliproad and got out to find my passenger side front wheel bolts had all worked loose. I really can't imagine what might have happened if they had come loose on the motorway let alone at 130 on the runway. This is the third time this has happened, all on the same wheel. I will not be driving the coupe again until i get to the bottom of this.

Lucky mate!
I checked mine the night before J.I.C.
Half way through that post I thought you were going to say your bottom end was on the way out, at least it was only the wheel bolts and you've got your brain in gear wink good plan to see why though are they the same bolts all round? Better get those new alloys done to see if they stop the issues? Better get a new set if bolts for good measure too.
I hope dinner didn't get spoiled wink

Dinner was slightly colder than usual, due to driving home at a snails pace frown

Mine used to work loose a lot, I used to tighten the after every session on track.....double check them with a proper torque wrench to 98 lbs ft before and after to be on the safe side. Glad it's nothing major to the car, but very worrying!

I just noticed from your other thread that you are running spacers, so obviously the 27mm will be too short. Mine run without spacers.
