Can anybody please tell me if 20vt plus alloys need spigot rings? Since fitting my plus alloys they came loose on me twice. Both times were on the m-way, luckily I caught them them just in time! The first time I put it down to not re-tightening the bolts after fitting the wheels. But the second time I really tightened them and checked them with a torque rench. And once again they came loose. I've now swapped back to my standard 20vt rims that I've never had a promlem with. And 500 mile later, still tight as ever.

My car never came with spigot rings on standard alloys when I bought it, and neither did my plus rimms, does anybody know if either standard or plus wheels need the rings?

Many thanks.

Short answer; no they don't.

They wheel won't be seating properly. Have they recently been powdered?

Do you use grease on the bolts?

Are they standard bolts?

Hi szkom

Yes standard bolts
The wheels were refurbed (regular paint) not powdered
And I use a little copper slip on the bolts.

Thanks

And there's your problem. Clean and de-grease the threads and the mating face of the bolts. The mating face is most important.

I suspect it's pot luck the standard rims stay put. Or unlucky that the plus rims are at an extreme of a tolerance. The bolt hole taper, or the runout of the wheel's hub for example.

You misunderstand, it's not the plus rim style per se.

It still could be anything. But as the bolts have been greased and come undone, the logical step is to de-grease them.

Thanks guys. It's worth a try I guess. At least I can rule out the fact they don't need spigot rings. Thanks szkom and mark_s thumb
