Sorry arm, but insurance company's getting away with serious murder here. If it's their insured's fault it is their responsibility to make sure that you are not disadvantaged. They are responsible to provide a hire car free (apart from fuel) and once they've done so, they are far more incentivised to settle the claim quickly due to the ongoing cost of hire.

Well that's just put my mind at ease. Just had a phone call from Sarah at glynwood. I can get the car moved if I'm not happy. Just see how it goes for now.

That's probably why my claim is moving faster than yours. Because I have a hire car.

Think of me driving about in the Cobra in the snow/ice/rain/fog as I am expected to use it as my alternative car.

........I will be requesting a hire car.

Good luck Muzzy, sorry if I hijacked your forum post!

It's not a hijack. We are in the same boat. It helps us both to share information. thumb

Hmmm that will be fun....for the first 5 minutes. Until you freeze your baubles off and get fed up of going sideways everywhere or going nowhere at all.

Good luck to you 2 arm. Think I need a drink drink

Are you with glynwood? Try to keep communications up with them. If things don't feel right, get in touch with Sarah. After all, if the others do something wrong, you will still be able to go through them to them claim back.

Yes kayjey I am. Sarah rang me, we had a good chat and she explained some things to me.

Basically if I don't feel I'm being treated like I should I'll be getting the car moved. At the moment the 3rd party insurers are dealing with it.

I'd definitely try and get the both of them to talk to each other. Personally, I'd just let Sarah deal with it and get the 3rd party off the case. Sarah will probably then use the pre-agreed valuation and decide on repair or pay. And claim back anything that's needed from the other party. They don't really (should) have a say in this. It's your insurance that assessed the value of the vehicle and who are in the correct position.

Just been catching up on this thread, and sorry to be a bit slow off the mark.

WHATEVER happens in an accident, if you are together enough, always get your car recovered to your home address and never allow it to leave your property while the insurance property is going through.

Here is a summary of the stories I have heard:

Cars being recovered straight to an insurers 'favoured' garage, assessed, written off, and crushed before the owner gets a say in proceedings, often at a loss to the owner, including not even being able to remove valuable or personal possessions. There is a huge vested interest between insurance companies, contract assessors, and garages/salvage yards in this area.

A summary of a personal experience:

I owned an Alfa 156 2.5V6 Veloce with a 3.0 24v engine conversion, all legit and legal and declared on the V5. It was written off in a fairly nasty crash on the M25 in Nov 2011 (Slovenian Artic hitting me and pushing me down the motorway sideways in front of it for 200 yds). I was sufficiently together to call the insurance company from the recovery area, and insist that the car was recovered to home. They argued this and refused to pay for it, so I paid for it myself. Twice they tried to remove it to an 'Assessor', but I refused so they sent an engineer round to assess. He was a decent chap, and on the spot I negotiated the payout value, and the salvage buy-back value (I wanted the engine to pop in a 155). If it had been taken, I would have been on my back foot for negotiating the payout, and would likely not have got the salvage.

Further to this, under some circumstances, if 3rd party liability is likely, it may be possible to insist on repairs rather than right off, due to rarity, classic status etc independent of market value.

Fight the insurance companies, they make money out of these circumstances, particularly for older and rarer cars!!! Insist that the car remains on your property until all points are negotiated and agreed!!

Hi Sarah. Yeah I will do but I am yet to hear from them. I expect it will be the new year before I hear anything. I will be giving them a call tomorrow though just to make sure.

Thank you. laugh

"if I'm not happy". Not "when I get even more unhappy". I think you're being waaaaaay to trusting here! Personally I would have acted quite a few days ago. Your best bet by far is getting Glynwood in charge. I'd never get my car taken away by an 'offending' party. They're the ones that want to pay the least.

Just my piece of advice - although I would urge you to follow it. I'll stay quiet and hope I'll not be proven right.

Quick update.

Still not complete but I know what's going on!

Apparently the company that assessed my car and wrote it off then did a estimate of the value of the car based on it being written off! If that makes sense.

So the 985 pounds I was offered was based on a written off car! Not sure it the write off can be reversed and still battling at the moment but we are getting somewhere.

I had a Alfa Romeo 145 2.0 cloverleaf that was written off as some idiot in a Mercedes sprinter went into the back of me.

Rear tailgate, lamp, rear bumper scuffed, rear panel bent slightly.

They paid me £890 for the car and gave me the car back which I repaired myself for free laugh (had a spare car)

Good luck with this one mate. All sounds rather similar to my own experience. someone pulled out on me damaging the front & side of the coop. it was towed away from the scene and I never saw it again! It went to some compound somewhere and an assessor wrote it off frown

He said he was off to do some research into the coupe so I might get a better result.

He also said he had never driven a Fiat he liked and hated working on them...
