I certainly hope to still have mine in 20 years and am not bothered whether it's worth or could be worth 1K or 100K in 20 years time either. I love the Coupe and can't think of anything I'd like to replace it with.

Indeed, I have the front bumper from a moon grey LE that went the way of scrappage.

16VT and X1/9 1500 + e208 Peugeot

We must all do our part for the planet.
I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.
I even unplugged my own.

A little research on "How Many Left?" Doesn't really bear this out. The scrappage scheme was brought in at the 2009 budget, so Q1/Q2 and finished early in Q2 of 2010, so the following figures are interesting. Figures are total number of cars including on SORN where such data exists, but it's like for like, Coupe vs Nova.

7,196 peak Coupés Q4 2000
267,461 peak Novas Q4 2000

5,200 Coupés Q1 2009
14,600 Novas Q1 2009

4,500 Coupés Q2 2010
9,950 Novas Q2 2010

Approx drop in Coupés during scrappage scheme 13.5%
Approx drop in Novas during scrappage scheme 32%

2,900 Coupés survive as of Q3 2013
5,700 Novas survive as of Q3 2013

Interestingly the initial peak number of Novas in 1994 was 446,000. Also, a higher proportion of the current surviving Novas are on SORN. Well over half of remaining Novas are on SORN, whereas less than a third of Coupés are.

The graph showing reducing numbers, doesn't show any significant change during the scrappage scheme, even for Novas, though that is likely due to the fact that a huge proportion of original Novas had already been scrapped.

It does tend to suggest that many people believe that the Coupe is a car worthy of saving, but most don't feel such love for the Nova.

As Joe at FCSS would say, "long live the Coupe."

I hope I still have one in 20 years, when I'm 73 and I'll still drive it like I do now. ;-)

Perhaps not as many proportionally as the Nova, but I do recall a number of posts from the time bewailing the fact that they were worth more as scrappage than trade-in.

Given the current value of a Coupe, scrappage would look even more attractive now.

They don't like going slowly anyway. It needs the beans at least once every journey.

in 20 yrs time, I'll be 71 and have no plans on slowing down then. The only reason my dad gave up racing at 72 was because he died suddenly - the last cheque he ever wrote (10 minutes before his death) was made payable to the Hillclimb and Sprint Association!

In 20 years time who will beable to tell the difference between a VT6, a plus and a VT with a kit slapped on it and a 6 speed box? Not many, hell, many struggle now!

I believe in 20 years time coupe owners will be a different breed of owner. At that point these cars will be regarded as a true classic car and treated as such. Owners will set about turning these cars back to how they should of been 30-40 years before. This will then lead to an increase in value depending how original it looks and not based on how many extra special bits had been added. Less is more!

If you look at cars which are 20 years older than the Fiat Coupe and are now deemed as classics you have the Datsun/Nissan 280z which were at one point not worth a lot and are now going upwards. You also have the Rover SD1 which were worth scrap and are now increasing in value. Audi Quattro, 10 years ago were in the 5k bracket your now looking at double at least. Original Alfa Spider, I had one a 1976 in grade 2/3 and sold it for 2k around 10years ago. The same car now is worth 6k upwards.

So looking at history another 10 years from now there will prob be only 1500 of these cars left. I suspect that is when prices will start increasing. You may even see double the value of what good cars are worth now. 20 years time they will be doubled again. Just by looking back you can guess what will happen in the future

At 47 in 20 years time, the Coupe will have had to survive marriage (this year), kids (who knows, but soon judging by the signals...) and all the other crap that comes with getting older.

Would be great, but can't see it...

from those figures above it looks like we are losing 500 cars a year, or we had between 2010 and 2013. Carry on at that rate.....

Yeah... you seem to be missing the years between 0-8 where im guessing "But mummy, daddy's car is cooooool" from said 0-8 year old just doesn't cut the mustard compared to the missus's "ITS GOT TWO DOORS, GET RID GET RID GET RID", and "Well how on earth do I get a pushchair in there?!"

People having kids for the first time tend to over react and rush out for a zafira diesel! I bought a Renault Laguna which I kept for 2 weeks then sold it quick as I was loosing the will to live, just don't rush into anything

My sister learnt that lesson for us thankfully. Rushed out after sprog number 1 bought a Ford Kuga. Brother in law sold his Focus ST to fund that one.

They then discovered it was basically a Focus on bigger wheels so promptly sold it and bought an A3. Waste of time and money.

Luckily my other half drives a 5 door focus so Coupe should be safe!!

I have 3 kids and a coupe, it just means that mine doesn't have the wife in it very much so me and my boys get to enjoy with no whining (well, except when a bearing of some description fails which seem to be common at the minute)

We had our first kid just over a year ago and Mrs. Jimbob promptly started looking at people carriers to replace her Yaris. I politely reminded her that i already owned a 2.8 ton, 8 seat Chevy... How much bigger did she want? I was met with "but it's left hand drive." banghead

Last month i finally gave in and bought her... a Megane.

At the same time i bought myself a Citroen Xsara Picasso, when she pushed me to swap i told her you can't carry a replacement Coupé interior in a Megane. I'm sure i'll get back out of the doghouse soon.

My eldest (11) has got used to it but often asks for the radio to be turned off and the windows to be lowered to the bottom so we can hear things better. Most of his mates think it's epic and one though Muzzie2 was "a millionaire" when he saw his wine plus going past.

The youngest (3) loves it and says "lets race him" and "why haven't you over taken him yet". He also likes a good mosh and sing along with Dad!

The middle one is more of a super hero / fantasist so unless I can make it fly or shoot lasers out of the headlights he's a tough crowd.

Most kids love them, except those who think that Jap rally / road cars are the bees knees, but then there is no accounting for taste.

In 20 years time I'll be 82, and, hopefully still driving my Coupe. My elder daughter, who owns an 850 Coupe, an 850 Spider, a 5 year old 500 Lounge and a 169 diesel as the family car (her and husband now have a 3 month old son), wants my Coupe bequeathed to her.

Both my daughters enjoy driving the Coupe and my 5 year old grandson certainly enjoys travelling in it.

My wife sometimes complains about giving the Coupe too much "right foot", but then they are meant to be driven.
