evening all, ive been fitting the pro alloy FMIC for the last few days which i brought from the group buy,and what a nice bit of kit it is too! but im just after some info on how much of the front bumper you need to cut! ive done as per the instructions (you still need to cut more than whats shown)...but the bit im wondering is, have any of you guys cut any of the lower part of the bumper,as in the area around the lower vents?? i have and the bumper is still resting against the cooler which is stopping the bumper from fitting as before, and theres not much more left of the bumper i can really cut,ive checked the mounting of the cooler and all seems ok.. and ideas?

After much swearing and cutting, I have managed to get the bumper to fit.

I cut a lot off the lower vents in the bumper to try and make the inside as flat as possible, the lower vents do jut inwards quite a bit.

The part that causes the most problems with fitting is the end tanks, so concentrate on cutting the bumper where it meets these.

Have fun

Gino,

The undertray had to be cut as well. A semi circular portion had to be cut at the front of the undertray in order to fit.

FCCUK. Guess who's half way through fitting this and a straight induction in the freezing cold . I was assuming that it would be as easy as the instructions make it look. There is the omnious "Offer the bumper into place, trimming of[f] any material that is in contact with the cooler" though.

If you're not fitting the undertray and having removed two supports on the lower front edge, doesn't this make the lower edge less rigid? How bad is it? I don't suppose that you've got any pictures (I can host them if it helps)?

At -3C .. I know it's worse elsewhere, but my ancient fingers still complain .

I started to take photo's when I started, but by the time I came to trimming the bumper I was too peeved off to carry on taking photos

The bumper still seems to be rigid which is surprising as most of the fixing points are along the top.

Also got the undertray back on. Or at least the remains of it after I attacked it with a hacksaw!

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with these guys . I had assumed that everything was OK with the kit, as some of the early purchasers seem to have fitted theirs without the same problems

As you know, mine was fitted by Pro Alloy, and features in the instructions that they produced. I don't run an undertray, but the trimming to my bumper seems to have been limited to the top, with nothing obviously trimmed off the bottom. Admittedly my bumper was pre-cut for an FMIC before Pro Alloy had it, so the amount that they show being cut off may not reflect what is required for a full bumper.

Are you sure that the I/C, brackets and pipework have all been fitted properly? I can only think that the unit is too far forward or too low . Perhaps this side view might help to check the position.

Do you think wayne would offer a discount if he used my bumper to show the actuall cutting needed for the FMIC as it would certainly make me go pick it up

TBH I think each bumper will need to be trimmed to suit each FMIC, so I'm not sure there is much benefit in this. The amount you have to take off is dictated by the I/C, and you won't get it back on until you have taken enough off .

Kingpleb - you could always ask him, but I'm guessing that any discount would only be off the £195 fitting cost that he would probably charge you in addition to the kit .

Sorry mate, don't know . They had my car for a couple of weeks and fitted the development work in with their busy schedule.

The easiest way to check out the bumper mods would be to meet up with someone who has the kit fitted already, remove the grilles, and compare the two bumpers .

I've just finished fitting my evo 6 FMIC and I had to take to bumper with the saw alot. There isn't anything that doesn't look standard from the front but I did have to remove the 4 supports in the very bottom (2 inch high) air intake and trim it right back to the bumper line. I also had to take up to the bottom grill mount holes off the top of the of the bumper, Will take a photo tomorrow and post if anyone is interested.

I had to custom make all my mounting brackets but I have a tig welder so went for the best fit but it was really close to the bumper not fitting.

Hope I get some good benefit from it

Cheers

As you drill the holes to mount the top bracket yourself (no template), I assume that you can adjust the positioning of the IC.

I'm midway through fitting mine and have guessed on a position for the top mount (the bracket is actually a little too narrow). I fully expect to adjust the top mount and brace bar positions once I come to refit the bumper.

Bumper fit aside (may still pose a major problem), I'm impressed with the quality of the kit and the little touches that they've added e.g. instructions in a plastic sleeve, all bolts, washers and jubilee clips supplied.

I've just (still need to put the wheels back on and test it!) finished installing mine and a straight induction pipe. I had to trim the bumper a fair amount - roughtly along a line between the two "pillars" that carry the top mounting bolt holes, and more around the end caps. Trimming at the bottom of the bumper wasn't too much, although I guess I'll only find out if it's in the correct position if I try to refit the undertray.

I think I needed to trim less than others appear to have, as I modified the bottom stay to shorten it, making a new mounting hole to allow the undertray one to be used by the undertray (in future). I'll add a picture later.
