Hi, my friend has a Toyota MR@ turbo and has fitted an oil catch tank. What is this and is it really useful or just eye candy for the engine bay?

hello Jeeva,

i dont know what kind of oil your friend want to catch with it maybe the dropping out gearoil for the gearbox :-)

Seriouly you can mod the crankcase ventilation with the oil catch can

Normally the Air/fuel mixture in the combustions chamber gets pressed thrue the pistonrings in your crankcase ,due to the ventilation the air fueloil mixture gets again in the air inlet manifold and finally burned this causes few problem .

Burning oil causes higher emissions
More chance to get knocking problem
.....

The mod

Fit an oil catch can to the crankcase ventilation and make sure one outlet is able to breathe and an airfilter on this outlet. Now you can close the hole in the inlet manifold you will see the engine will run better!
