No replay has me very concerned. They'd have found the footage by now but they're choosing not to show it.

I'm afraid everyone knows something that they aren't saying until there's confirmation. Awful situation...

Very worrying, those diggers are pretty solid.

Apart from that, and the first 10 laps under the safety car, it was a great race.

Daily wail has a couple of photos on its site if you do wish to have a look, but let's say there isn't much airbox and engine cover left. I do really hope we don't get the worst frown

Very sad end to what was for the most part a cracking race. Some very brave drivers out there and once again LuLu proves he is the better wheel to wheel racer. Hoping we get good news soon.

From the very first moment I saw the reaction of the marshals I was worried - their reaction was almost identical to that of Senna's crash - run towards it then step back

Fingers crossed as he has bad head trauma

I was watching live with the F1 live timing app open. Shortly after Sutil's crash, a notification popped up saying "Bianchi has gone off track at turn x", which none of the commentary team mentioned (on BBC), despite the fact that Bianchi was highlighted in red on the screens and marked "STOP". As soon as the medical car came out alongside the safety car, I immediately wondered if it was for Bianchi, but nobody had mentioned his accident at all.
I am assuming that there was an immediate recognition by the official F1 media team that this was not for broadcast and all mention/footage/team radio was cut. On the other hand, the body language of absolutely everyone after the race clearly showed that they knew something very bad had happened. The total absence of any tension between Rosberg and Hamilton was a pretty clear sign.
A lot of speculation surrounding the decision to move Bianchi by car, not helicopter; some saying the chopper couldn't take off, others that it couldn't land.
The teams are not permitted to carry out winter testing if the helicopter is unable to fly (maybe due to less medical centre provision on track?), so it seems odd that they can race.

There will be some pretty far-reaching investigation after this, although it seems a tragic conspiracy of coincidence created the circumstances for the accident to be possible.

What sort of timeframe are we talking about here, Jim? "Live" sport is usually aired with a delay.

Sky was the same though. I've no idea when he crashed in relation to it being announced but the Sky commentary team seemed to be aware of it when they saw the ambulance arriving.

The live timing app (the one that costs £20!) is - as far as I can tell - in real time; it is usually a few seconds ahead of the TV (either Sky or the BBC).
I *think* the initial notifications of cars going off track or exceeding track limits, etc, are based on GPS/telemetry rather than someone observing and typing them. Same goes for blue flags being waved at certain drivers - they are at least partially automated.

All I know is as I said above - 1 written mention of Bianchi going off, then nothing more. It may have its own time delay built in, but I am not aware of it.

A new photo has emerged, showing the accident scene very clearly. With consideration to the people who may be upset by the image because you can see Jules (with his helmet on though), I will not post it here. If you would like to see the extent of the damage to the Marussia. Hope he pulls through. http://i.imgur.com/n3HKYVk.jpg

Just a sad accident.... They were doing the right thing. Clearing Sutil's car under Yellows'. Its just a tragic accident that he should go off at the exact same spot. Not sure what changes they can make apart from stopping the race completely whenever there's a recovery vehicle on the track but do we or the drivers really want that. Hope he pulls through but by the looks of it he was lucky not to have been decapitated.......

I fell asleep when they went back into the pit lane.. missed it all.

Gutted to see the final outcome though. Thoughts are with the young fellow but it's not looking too good so far frown I remember when this team had a car run into a truck at Duxford tragic to have to suffer such a similar incident.

Change the type of recovery vehicle, reduce speed allowed in a double yellow section. Has to be something sensible, you can't have drivers able to hit objects like that.

I agree, he's lucky his head is still attached.

They need some long reach boom cranes so they can remain behind the barriers, there will be some cost but what is that versus someone's life! At least he seems now to be stable:)

I was suggesting the very same thing to a colleague - like at Monaco. Ofcourse there are still numerous gravel traps and grass areas where this might be a problem.

Maybe just put lots of protection around the JCBs? I must admit when I first heard about the accident I thought it was more likely Bianchi had been run over by a JCB (wouldn't be the first time) or that he'd crashed into marshall.

Either way its a terrible thing to happen. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Pretty shocking! did he go into the jcb backwards?
doesn't matter how much padding you put around a JCB it wont make a lot of difference! if they left the car where it was and he hit that may of been a better outcome but could also of been fatal! just cant win! Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't!

Speedy recovery Bianchi!

From the footage I've seen on youtube there were green flags being waved at the location where the crash happened when the second car went off. Not sure if this would have contributed though.

That's correct. Green flags mean, from that point onwards (ie AFTER the incident), you are free to race. They're a bit like speed limit signs - they only apply after you've passed them.

Just seen footage of the crash (a friend shared it on facebook and my feed played it automatically). He looked to be going awfully fast and straight into the back of the jcb. Marshalls were very lucky

Reported to be 160 at loss of control and 100 on impact.

I was wondering if,as a back marker, he was trying too hard to unlap himself under safety car.
