Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a 20v turbo coupe. Car is a bit of a state but it's going for peanuts. Not bothered about looks as it's going to be a track toy.

Problem is the car needs a clutch. I'm a bit of a have a go mechanic but have never done a clutch on a car... is this a job I should be able to tackle myself? I saw someone say it should be about 5 hrs labour in a garage. Has anyone done this themselves?

I've done a few.
Lots of things that will catch a novice out,but if your handy with a spanner it might be worth a go.

5 hours?? Ha ha haha!!

Jbt / Joe might beable to do it at a push but I did mine and it took about 16 hours, on a ramp with a buzz gun. It's bloody hard the first time and between me and my dad we've done engine transplants, built kit cars and many clutches on other cars (not alot of room upfront, lots of bits to come off!)

Hmmm probably best just to cough up and get a local garage to do it by the sounds of it.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Take it to a specialist, it's about £500. Get belts checked over at same time and enjoy!

Took me 9 hours on a ramp. with about 8 years experience being a mechanic. Sure with a spare pair of hands and having done it before I could knock a few hours off

If it's the car I think it is, that's the least of it's problems, have you seen it yet? I looked at it and pretty much not worth putting a clutch in....

r2, is this Ricky's coop?

My advice would be to take it to JM motors in Falkirk. John and his lad Sean are well into Italian cars and and conversant with coupes as a lot of us take ours there.

01324 611492 mention my name lol

Yep, well the chap was called Richard so I'm presuming it's the guy you're talking about.

Have passed on that one but am keeping an eye out for a better condition one to use as a weekend car smile Watch this space.

Think Richard is sticking it back on eBay if anyone's interested.
