Ok this is sligthly OT as it's not about a new Coupe (yet), but anyway.

I was at the Paris motorshow last week and all the important guys are at the shows the first press-day. And I know what they usually look like.
At Fiat a distinguished italian was talking with some other seemingly very high bosses for a long time. Then I got my chance:
I said, "Scusa, hi im from Volvo - Geely and I'd like to ask about your coming rwd platform"
he said: "you want to buy it?"
Me: "no i'm a fiat enthusiast!! laugh I just like to ask; is Fiat going be just a row of 500-derivates, or will there even be larger rwd Fiat using the new Alfa giulia platform?"
Him: "no, there will be two Fiats - the 500series and the functional; as the Panda, the Spider etc. The Rwd Alfa platform will be used only by Alfa right now. The first rwd Fiat will be the new Spider. Based on the Miata platform. What models do you have?"
Me: "an 125, an Argenta and a Coupe!"
Him: "aah if you have those cars youre going LOVE the new Fiat Spider, it looks astonishing!"
Me: "is it anything like a 124 Spider?"
Him: (smiling)"..yes."
Me: "grazie!" smile

I got his card and he got mine.
His read: Alfredo Altavilla, Head Of Business Development. smile

Maybe we are looking at brighter future!

It will be developed over new Mazda Mx-5 rwd platform, with MultiAir engine and probably TCT transmission

That's right I forgot that info thanks Gimmo smile
Didn't know about the gearbox but it would be no surprise.

Also read today that Mr Altavilla is one of the contenders for replacing Marchionne when he retires..

So is this what's happening to the Alfa/MX5 slashtop that apparently isn't happening now?

I *like* it with a Fiat badge on; it'll be a couple of grand cheaper!

First version of memorandum was between Alfa and Mazda, but Marchionne changed idea now he wants Alfa all made in Italy.

So they dediced to use Mazda chassis to make a FIAT model.

I Will not be designed by Pininfarina neither built because between Pininfarina and FIAT in this moment there is no collaboration: Ferrari uses internal style center in Modena and also FIAT uses an internal center, called Officina83
