Purgatory in the MRS household. Charlie needs 3 As at Advanced Higher and one of them needs to be Band 1 in order to take his place at Cambridge.

The thing is, the results that come by email/text/post don't have the bands!!!

He has 3 As.....

We have to wait (over 3 hours) to call the school and get the bands.

He has done brilliantly whatever happens (the school didn't have a Biology teacher for Advanced Higher and he's still got an A). Fingers well-and-truly crossed

Thank you, everyone. When I think back to what the boy's been through, it's a fairy tale achievement. I'm so so proud of him. And of my other kids who have done so well despite all of the distraction and worry around Charlie's cancer.

And a special thank you to you all. Ever since day one, you've been a fantastic support. I'm so incredibly grateful. You are very special people.

I'd like to think he'd done this one but that Higher rather than Advanced Higher.

That is great news - and I think it was also a very wise nod re the achievements of the other children.

Well done all.

Thanks and yes, they both had a hard time whilst Charlie was being treated. Eve just put her head down and got on with it despite wondering what the point was. Hughie has had a different challenge - both his siblings have done brilliantly so it's an incredibly hard act to follow and he's very much had to get on by himself a lot of the time too.

Hope he fits in well at Cambridge, my brother turned down a scholarship at the top private school in Birmingham and a place at Cambridge because he wanted to study with normal people !! smile. Luckily it did him no harm , still got straight A's and a 1st at Sheffield Uni. I'm sure Cambridge will open a few doors in life that other Uni's don't though smile

Its a long way to come home at weekends laugh

Both sets of grandparents live around Cambridge - he'll have them fighting over who to take him for tea and do his washing! His cousin starts at Cambridge this year too - her home is in Newmarket. And his mum adores Cambridge having lived there most of her life. I think he'll be wishing he went to Oxford or, better still, Yale...

Charlie's a comprehensive kid so it'll be a bit eye-opening for him to go to Cambridge. He's the first kid from his school to go there in a long time.

That's good that he has relatives there, getting into Cambridge is a great achievement and you are rightly proud. His mum might start hankering to move back if he stays down south after his degree results smile

I don't know about starting to hanker - I think she has for the 10 years we've been up here! Equally, though, she'd find it a wrench to leave.

The plan is to stay here until Hughie has completed his schooling which will be two years max. Eve actually left after her Highers as she got an unconditional offer from Glasgow - so it might be less than 2 years.
