Hi all,
I've noticed most cars have sills painted black like mine and some match the colour of the car. Is this an indication that some spraying has been done? Doesn't seem to be any pattern in terms of the year of the car. I've seen it on non turbo and turbo cars, and cars that are not pluses or LEs. Actually I think it looks better when they are black.

Great thanks chaps. Handy to know if it's not a 6 speed car and the sills aren't black then it's been painted.

Black sills make the car look like an off -roader
Heh. I used mine for years dragging along farm tracks to get to paraglider launch sites...

I prefer black sills, with colour coded ones the body looks too heavy, the black sills slim it down. I couldn't put it into words that made any sense but that's what I think too.

I agree. Much prefer the more svelte look of a Coupé with black sills. I’m not a fan of side skirts for the same reason.

I'm with Joe on this one, makes the coupe look dated, can't wait to get our 'Rosa' in the paint shop and get the sills colour coded.

I think the LE sills look great don't get me wrong. I just think it doesn't look right when the sills are colour coded but there are no side skirts.

I agree, but some colours suit coloured sills, some don't, some do make the height of the car too high [ fat ]. Think I will stick with black.

IMO black sills make the car look as though it's sitting higher, accentuating how small the wheels are.
I've had black (on a sprinty), colour coded (on another sprinty) and sills (blue Plus)..in order I prefer sills, colour coded then black.

As Bangle intended for me, gives the car a nice waistline, think there is a resurgence in black sills going on... the GTR, some Audi's and Renault Clios etc.
For me the sills on newer cars look nice but a bit Too Fast Too Furious

Seems like a pretty even split of opinion on this one. We'll have to arm wrestle for it.

Interesting... Mine is a 1999 20V VIS and has black sills and yours is a year 2000 20V VIS with colour coded sills. Guess they only switched to colour coded sills in the final year of manufacture.

Are your alloys like Annies, in the sig pic above? I think they coloured the sills when these alloys where fitted, and yes, at the end of the production run. Also, do you have an oil temp gauge or a voltmeter? Wonder if they changed at the same time too

Reckon you're right. Mine has the other alloys and a voltmeter. No oil temperature.

Seems like a pretty even split of opinion on this one. We'll have to arm wrestle for it. Forget black sills or even colour codes sills. You'll notice that over the years, the most celebrated, widely applauded and desired Coop examples have always had side skirts. The side skirts actually manage to make the 20 year old design timeless. That's what the general public appreciates. And that's what matters. Nobody really cares what a couple of purists think about an old Fiat.

That's what the general public appreciates. And that's what matters. Quite honestly who cares what the general public appreciates. I bought my coupe because I wanted one, not for the benefit of some unknown herbert in the next town.

That's what the general public appreciates. And that's what matters. Do you need public or general opinion on everything before you can make a decision yourself? Might explain why we used to get gems like this one...

Do you need public or general opinion on everything before you can make a decision yourself? I don't know. Can we have a poll? If other people's opinions didn't matter at all, then why does this forum have a 'Your Coupe Pictures' thread and an accompanying 'Your Coupe Pictures Comments' thread?

If some owners' opinion on black or colour coded sills don't matter, then why do we have a thread entitled 'black or colour coded sills'? Some people like to show off the cars they're proud of. Others like to ask for opinions, thoughts or inspiration. Some even like to stick great chunks of plastic to their cars and call it modern. Smacks of early '90s McDonald's car parks to me than timeless looks but it's their choice. That said, spoilers are shit

Although I sometimes struggle changing gear at right moment when I have radio on, and I always seem to go faster to heavy metal.

as long as your happy with your car who cares what others think But as with everything, the overall consensus quickly sums up the thing in question. If a car really is good looking, then most people will say the car is good looking. As we all know, most people say the Coop looks nice. It is this overall perception that confirms you are indeed driving a nice looking car, which in turn increases your own appreciation of the car's aesthetics. If everyone you know said your Coop was a rubbish looking car and wherever you went people laughed at your car, would you seriously keep it, even if you really liked it yourself?

For the record whilst I cannot gauge public opinion there are a lot of people I have met who have informed me they dislike the Fiat Coupe and especially it's styling....of which there are numerous such posts on here over the years

I think if it come with black sills then leave well alone and if it come with skirts fine. I wouldn't buy a car that had skirts fitted aftermarket even if the job was well done, hence the reason Im looking for an LE (I just love the look, stance and road presence)
