I can't believe there isn't a thread on this!

Mind you, with everyone trying to sort out Jim's Central heating woes it's understandable.

Living in the town of Rugby I've been pleasantly surprised with the amount of coverage my little town has had in the build up. The town's council is actually being proactive for once and we have a tremendous 'fanzone' that's showing the games live.

As for the competition itself, the Kiwis go in as favourites. I'm hoping England get out of their group. The winners of the group will in all likelihood avoid SA in the Quarter Finals. The game on the 27th with the Welsh is going to be a spicy affair....

Call me selfish, but my plumbing seems a tad more important than some global sporting event.
I hope the tournament is excellent with rugby the winner, but don't think I'll watch much of it...

Ha! No worries.

Can't believe it was three weeks ago and I still only had to go to page 2 to find it actually. Shows how quite this place is these days.

With the honourable exception of the 2012 Olympics, all Opening Ceremonies are buttock-clenchingly awful. Fact.

Far from perfect but a five point win is exactly the start we needed.

To be fair Fiji did what they had to do - come out and fight all the way. Fiji scored less point against England than they have in any of the previous 5 matches but England also didnt score as much either.

It was never going to be an easy win so all in all a positive start.

I was lucky enough to turn over with 82 mins on the clock just in time to see the winning play. Unbelievable!

So glad I've series linked the whole tournament. I'll enjoy watching this later on once the Mrs has inevitably fallen asleep.

Just back from Cardiff!

Ireland still have work to do but at least we have started on the right foot.

Well done Englland. Not easy being the host team but I think they will do well.

What can I say about Japan. We were in a pub in the town centre with 45,000 Ireland fans going mad for Japan fantastic!

We ended up having a scrum in the middle of the pub at about 2 am. I have to say it was messy.
Sunday we watched Wales v Uruguay . No where near the atmosphere as the Ireland game, but the supporters think they will meet Ireland and beat us.
For me the best match so far is the Japan game, followed close by the kiwi v Argentina game last night.
Looks like every team is here to do the business.

I think England came out after half time too relaxed thinking they'd got the job done. Bit like when tennis players go two sets up and then lose the third. Very common, same in squash.

And when Wales got all those injuries I thought it would bring their good spell to an end, but it didn't. In fact it was the play just after all the injuries that really won the match for them.

Classic match that will be long remembered.

i think they should have tried for a try at the penalty before as they had the momentum at that stage.

they also had the wrong tactic at the final lineout. off the top and out to the backs was better option with lots of players playing out of position and the England backs had been finding holes anyway.

The thing is I dont think Wales will be in any fit state to progress much further so whilst they may progress out of the group at Englands expense I doubt they will make it that much further. That would be a shame for both sides. The Australia matches will be the deciders for the group.

England's indiscipline cost them. They were the better team for much of the game.

Incidentally, I agreed with the decision to kick for the line. Great as Farrell is, the 3 points were hardly a 'gimme' and we'd have still only been level.

However, I'd have thrown to the back of the line out, dummied a driving maul and then given it to one of our big hitters to have a run at their third string back line. Very easy to say with the benefit of hindsight though.

I still think we'll beat Australia though and this group could come down to points difference.

Absolutely 100% whole heartedly agree with these points. Not sure we'll beat the aussies though.

All Blacks look like a group of talented individuals tonight. Very beatable. Can't see them winning the tournament.

They're out of sorts, for sure. They did wrap up the 5 points within about 20 minutes though.

Quite. not a great performance (by their exceptional standards) but still got the job done with relative ease.

Also to give Georgia their dues they have put pressure on the whole game and not allowed NZ to dominate or control the pace of the game as much as they would like.

I would not right off the All Blacks on the back of this one game.

England were poor. But, to be fair, Australia were good and even if England were right on their game I still don't think they'd have won.

It's a real shame that Englabd couldn't get some good momentum going. This was probably the best chance to take the World Cup as all of the Southern Hemisphere teams are fallible at the moment.

I can only hope that Ireland, France or perhaps Argentina can give us an upset at some point in the competition.

I hadn't missed any of Englands previous world cup campaigns but for some reason I just could not get behind this squad. Ready todays dismal press made me realise. I just don't know who the team are! The fact that there have been 18 different combinations of Fly halves and centres I telling. We even changed a winning team after the first game. I can remember more players from 1991 side than this squad.

Lancaster is a decent man but I don't think he, or his staff, ever settled on a starting line up. Also what is this crap about not selecting player who play their club rugby overseas. Madness, just pick the best players and manage them into a formidable side and maintain discipline.

Shame, we were outplayed by better sides and even lacked any passion. I only hope lessons are learnt.

Really. I thought is was fairly poor from Wales. The failure to get any points in the board against a team with 2 players of the field is almost criminal. They squandered a territory and possession advantage which should have seen them ahead.

Hats off to Australia it was a stellar defensive effort but Wales are going to have to up their game significantly if they are to progress.

I think Scotland will struggle against Australia. They were opened up far to many times far too easily and it was only Samoas indiscipline that handed them the game.

Ireland v France today should be a good game. Looking forward to that one.
