if so, which turbo is best. or do i need to get headwork done?
i am an amateur at tuning so any help will be much appreciated

a lot to get 300bhp You could use std pistons, but there limit is 280 - 320bhp. Rods are meant to be good for 400bhp, but again, i dont know anyone that has used std rods for that much power You will need bigger injectors, different turbo, 3" exhaust, tubular manifold, cams, headwork and a few things which isnt cheap, you can get to about 280bhp without that many problems, after that the engine needs to be cracked open. See my propsed spec for 400bhp
Your car is Usain Bolt with wellies

there are 2 ways you can get 300hp, or rather 2 types, one is the 300hp that is made at very high rpm, with rubbish power band and lack of progression in the torque curve. the other is a genuine quality 300bhp with smooth power delivery and a wide power band with minimised lag. One method need less money then the other, but one method has a much better result - make your mind up.
Firstly for 300hp you will need a remap, this can be done on your ecu as it is by the well known Ahmed Bayjoo. This is the most important part.
For the best spool look for a suitable gt ball bearing turbo which can fit the t3 flange - a gt28r or rs we know can deliver the goods.
Your outlet will have to be custom, but hey thats life.
If you have good head work done (theres lots of bad head work being done) then fit triple race springs and colombo cams (i thinks there a stage 2 street stradale meddisimo IIRC)
You will need larger injectors, they will need flow testing first as thats the right way to go about it.
you would be advised to get a better fuel pump.
You will also need an FMIC, the pro alloy will fit with a bit of imagination on the piping for the 16vt.
I suggest the supersprint manifold too.
If the car is mapped correctly it should produce good power without lean spots which will melt the pistons.
if you are looking for a cheap 300bhp you will be sorry some point down the line. I would save the required money then get all the parts.
there will always be a few other things to buy along the way allow 20% more for these if you arent doing the work yourself, I wouldnt bother as labour will overtake the component cost easily.

jesus sounds like a lot of work! thought i read somewhere that the 16vt was an easily tunable engine. i guess not.
a mate of mine got 300bhp out of his 200sx s14 with just induction kit, exhaust and a boost controller ( all set up by professionals).
oh well cant really be doing with all that work. guess ill stick with what ive got
cheers

Without nowing too much about the 200SX, 300bhp sounds very optimistic from those mods.

in all honesty i thought that was a very good figure for the mods aswell but i was there when he picked up the car, spoke to the bloke who set up the boost and have seen the graphs.
and compared to my car (mainly in fourth and fifth) it feels miles quicker!!

IIRC they both have traction control, and Mavric was using Hooser drag tyres at Santa Pod.
Remember you can actually get compounds that will make your tyres sticky for a short period for use on quarter miles.
Think Barbz you may want to speak to Barbz about the 16v turbo engine mods.

You might find his at wheel figure is probably about 230 bhp with 270 ish at the fly on most rolling roads I've not seen a real 300 bhp on those mods on a 200, and if it takes your fancy there are 100's of RR graphs with specs littering the sxoc. Bet it is fast though
Sounds a lot easier to get 300 bhp from a 200 though...

I'd say it's easier to see 300 on a 20VT than it is on a 200SX, or very similar. I don't know the 2hundy that well though.
I was only thinking aloud after the sugestions above... although that was about the 16v I notice now... you dont need to open the engine or change the manifolds on a 200 till some way past 300

theres one alfa 155 q4 in lithuania that has 350hp+150hp nos shot and uses standard rods. was dynoed at 507hp. im also after the same amount of power. ca 350hp + 100/150hp nos shot and i was thinking of using standard rods.
here's my spec: Cometic HP headgasket 12mm head bolts Garret GT28RS .86ar Porting and polishing of the head+3angle valve sockets+higher compression ratio 8.5:1 as the 20v turbo engines 550cc injectors Bosch 190lph fuel pump Forged pistons Greddy e-Manage piggyback computer Direct port nitrous
this will be the final setup, hopefully the car will be ready in the beginning of summer.
