As the Fiat 500 is passing over to my youngest shortly, thought we'd return to a bit of open top motoring but was damned I was going to pay stupid money for a 500 cabriolet! Being familiar with the model, having had an MGF in the past, thought I'd take a punt on a 52 plate, 75k, only one MOT failure and a handful of advisories in the past. Got more pics from the owner on sills and arches which looked fine so thought why not. Secured it for 1.3k! Best bit was when I spoke to him he'd forgotten to state in the advert that it had stainless coolant pipes and after-fit coolant alarm (crucial mods on k series) then icing on the cake it had a hard-top! These go for in excess of 200 quid! He could have got much more with a properly written advert rolleyes. Could have done more on the ticket (due August), black mehhh and will need a full service for peace of mind. I'll need to rust protect the subframes but for pocket money - not a bad deal methinks party

Cheap summer fun Alan which will soon start to increase in value as they're becoming quite rare now, nice one thumb

Cool get some pics up. I have a MY2000 BRG F and an 02 Sprint Blue TF160 (remapped wooohoo!), done 42K and 53K respectively. They are cracking little sporty cars that are fun to drive and cheap as chips to insure and maintain, you get left alone on the road too. Had the F for 18yrs and the TF for 6yrs. Given the price of newer (ok better sports cars) or secondhand currently a good example of the the F or TF is an absolute bargain for Summer top down fun, really have to work the K and the car as it is totally analogue and everything happens high up, but I have had some of my best drives in the MGs toodling in the F around Kent's lanes in the Summer to the pub and the TF for more focused blats, good MPG for an old car too. HG repair by a mobile specialist is only circa £400 too, both of mine have had them but have the uprated gasket on them. Was under both last year to top up the undersealing all sound. For the price of a service on something more exotic you can have a whole car!!!

I had an MG TD back in the mid sixties. Used it all over the country and for 4 months in France where I used to park it and get back to it and find various unknown girls sat in it. Used to happen with my Frogeye Sprite too.

The MG is still taxed and on the road now.

I unplugged a row of electric cars that nobody was using.

I bought a TF160 as a temporary car so I could sell my daily and take time finding the right one. It took me 5 months to find the new daily but for some reason the TF stayed for 2 years - that reason being it was great fun, cheap to run and I didn't particularly want to sell it. Needed the space in the end and my brother bought it from me. A very under-rated car which gave me a smile every time I drove it, especially when the top was down. Keep wondering about getting another but it would probably have to replace the Coupe so that isn't going to happen!

Thanks peeps for the positive vibe as it's not uncommon to experience MGR / K series bashing, often from people who have no experience of the cars in the first place rolleyes

The intention is the MG will be a daily runner when the coupe is SORNd which is made easier with the hardtop.

@ Joe - yes you're right re value. Only a few years ago you could pick these up sub £1k but values have certainly crept up and being the 20th anniversary of the TF this year there'll no doubt be further interest.

Thinking of wrapping the hardtop in due course. Tartan anyone? wink

Good to read such positive comments on the f and tf.
I’m trying to make one good tf out of two £400 bangers. The first one I drove for 12 miles, the second half a mile.
I bought them as I wanted a mid engine car and driving fun below the speed limit.
I’ve had long Covid since Jan 21 so progress on the resto is slow as I’m dozing more often than not when I can.
I’ve got a soft ride suspension kit, remap ecu, stainless coolant pipes and 20 kg of primer, paint and underseal under it.
It’s green with a tan interior. Just as I’d have a Coupe beer

Sorry to hear about your long COVID but hopefully full recovery isn't too far away thumb

Green is certainly the correct colour for a British sports car - but I do recall once seeing a young lady in an MGTF whose red hair matched the colour of her car *exactly*. I'm not sure which one she changed to match the other...
