Yes it is in the right place!
OKay, I have often dreamt about doing what I have seen on other more Jap orientated cars and putting a PC in my car to control the ICE etc! I have seen many a car with a PC screen in the dashboard. Obviously space is a problem in the coupe so to acheive the best results one would have to remove the heating conrols.
The question I have is:
Would it be possible to use some electrical stuff and a GUI to control the heater etc using a PC GUI?

why not just have a 7 inch retractable touchscreen? you can buy the single sized din motorized HU holders and then put any screen you want in it. much easier. remember the vent control positioning is only a cable or do what someone esle has done and make a custon pod that sits over the top vents and above the dash. could house the centre speaker then too

I would like so that it fits flush in the console with no retractable stuff! It is just a wild dream that maybe one day I might do!

thats the pod i was on about, looks okay but dont like it covering the trim. elder, just lose all the heating system, who needs it anyway i bet the switches could be positioned where hte original stereo is and the cable could be extended to fit there to allow vent control big task though

i have a second dash which i have stripped down. I also have a 8" touchsceen which i have taken to bits so that i have the housing for the screen which i will be fibreglassing into the stripped dash.
Just like the above link. no need to move heater controls just gonna move the badge.
The only problem i have is, where do i install the pc ?? i was thinking in my boot but thats loads of wires running backwards and forwards. I thought that an "flat" pc could go into the passenger footwell.
what do u think ?

I love the look of that dash....would hate to see my Pininfarina badge go though. Im sure you could create a GUI for every single analogue control in your car using DC actuators and potentiometers however the script for controlling those motors would be a Mare unless your good with software. As for Karl's question i had a carputer in my bravo and stuck the board in my rear passenger footwell then created a false floor so the floor sat about 3inches hiogher than the rest. Worked fairly well as well In the coupe you could probably make a custom mount and shove it right to the back of the passenger forward footwell?

Damn right i was part of FiatBOO!! Sadly i dont have any pics with me sadly as im 300miles away from my own computer! Erm it did just look like a false floor in the passenger side that fitted flush across the tunnel in the rear, was great!

im thinking about installing a carputer again i installed a mini pc unit in my calibra with a motorised touch screen in the front and one in the boot as said above all the sound is controlled via the sound card through amplifiers, also had 3g internet card, gps sat nav, also DAB tv / radio it was great i managed to make it all dash mounted so the cd drive try came out the bottom of the centre console with a switch panel to operate the addition cooling fans, power, power to the amps etc and there was MASSES of wire, creat having everything on hand and no discs etc cluttering up the car and with wireless connection you can access form your desktop to update .. oh yeah also had front and rear web cams / mini cams for filming will admit car never got on the road to get that far but looked and worked great there are several free programs that can operate all your media via the touch screen ( mediacar etc ) this frum was a life saver http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/have to keep us updated on your progress brianmay do you have any information on your installs pics etc i love to see them in cars just been looking and this is the one i had installed not a huge spec but you dont really need it just to run small programs and i did install it 2 years ago so it was top of the range lol http://www.cappuccinopc.com/cappuccinoez3.asp
