Hi Guys and Girls,

Here is LE No 1150 [totally standard except exhaust]
web page
web page web page web page

Already spent a fortune - Wishbones, SuperSprint exhaust, service, Tyres [F1 GSD3's] etc...

Paul at Motor Mech has been really great!

FCCUK is very well supported and a great source of info and advice.

Cheers,

Ian.

Hello, and welcome to the Forum. Now just to finish spraying the car, what colour are you putting over that primer?

(oldie but a goodie)

It looks very nice, hope you have many happy miles.

Brewster

Thanks Brewster,

I thought Pinin would be the first with "it's not painted"

Cheers,

Ian.

Chrono is a marmite colour. I happen to hate marmite.... but just love that colour.

Looks a good example of an LE.

Welcome to the world of Coupe ownership.

Thanks Che!

Have you had any paintwork done on yours? is it easy to match ?

I know, I know, I am asking for it. Someone will suggest getting the whole car painted!

Ian.

I have a bunch of things I want to do to mine (refurb all the brake calipers, brake lines, disks etc.) before I'll get a chance to look at the bodywork TBH, and with a house move happening I've yet to do anything to it apart from change all the fluids and clean it all. Can't imagine it would be anymore difficult to do than any other colour though. When I got mine the bumper had been re-sprayed (Some time before) and the match is spot on.

Fairly new to it like me then?

Or maybe you have had other coops?

It is easy to get carried away with the £££ making them perfect.

I have to keep reeling myself in! - Well my wife does actually.

I've been looking for a mint centre console facia but have come to the conclusion that most of them for sale 2nd hand are all peeling.

I may just have to bite the bullet and buy new as the rest of the interior is mint.

Ian.

Ian, I started with a 20V NA around a year and a half ago, and sold that when the LE came up. It was a good chance to learn about the engine etc. before tackling one with the turbo and aircon which can make working on the engine a pain

With an unlimited source of cash it would be easy to just run wild and get everything replaced, I can't afford to do that so am treating mine as a project and will take it off the road over the winter to get everything done. I enjoy working on it so am more than happy to tackle a lot of the jobs myself.

I think you'll find it near impossible to find a mint centre console 2nd hand (correct me if I'm wrong CarlT), as the plastic coating on them attracts marks. Having said which, there are 2 breakers on the forum here, Carlt and Rex, either one would be worth trying. If your really fussy and want it perfect, a new facia from Fiat is around £150 (there was a thread recently). Something else I need also.......

Che,

Sounds like you know what you are doing with the mechanical side of things.

I built a Westfield a few yrs ago [sold it last year] so I can assemble stuff [all new bits] but messing with a coop scares me a bit.

I also need to use the car so cannot take it off the road so I will be relying on Paul at Motor mech who has been really helpfull.

Thanks for the tip on where to get spares although I am mega fussy so will maybe have to take the pain of a new CC facia panel.

Have you had wishbones? it made a massive difference to the feel of the car. I bet new shocks would be a massive improvement too [here I go again spending £££ in my head]

Alas, I cannot afford all this either at the mo

Ian.

If only! More of a keen amatuer Ian, and only have the confidence to tackle some of these things thanks to the help and knowledge of the people here on the forum.

My car had most of the major work done over the last 2 years, so fingers crossed not something I'll need to tackle for while, although I'm tempted to change the bushes whilst doing the brakes

What I was thinking was to swap the standard ones for the Polybushes Ian, more ofr longevity than anything, although great claims are made for the improvement they are supposed to give. However, I believe there was some debate about this in the technical section a short while ago, I'll PM you the link when I find it........

Cheers!

Are you talking about anti roll bar bushes?

I have a bit of experience with poly biushes from Westfield days. thay do make things a bit sharper but the also do not damp out as much of the vibration etc from the road surface.

I thought bushes in the wishbones were not replaceable and that is why you have to have complete W/bone.

Ian

Yes I see - you can do the bushes on the w/bones but it looks like quite a tough job. Thats why it is mabe cheaper to have new w/bones unless you do it yourself.

Thanks

Ian.

Funny enough mine came with the silver wheels! No idea why, guess they were just to hand when it was coming out of the factory. It was orginally a Fiat dealers car.

However, once I get sometime they are going in for powder coating back to the proper colour.

Chaser, those must be the best pics of a Chrono i`ve seen .

All the other pics of Chrono`s in my Coupé picture folder that i`ve collected are all tiny and your ones finally do the colour some justice .

Thanks Baz.

The Chrono colour is really wierd cos it looks so different depending on the lighting conditions!

Yes, I love the way the colour looks in those pic... I took them on my phone too!! I did not think they would come out so good.

If you need any more reference pics for your folder taken with a better camera I would be happy to oblige.

Cheers,

Ian.

By the way, just noticed in your pics the way the gear lever gaiter is sitting down, like mine was, this becomes a real dirt trap and looks way better if you pull it up and get it to sit uparound the lever !

Hi Brian,

Yes, quite rare these Chrono Colour cars

I know of one in Scotland but not sure if any others around.

Thanks for the tip about the gear lever.

The primer comments get a bit wearing after a while don't you think?

Colour reminds me a bit of the Gulf racing blue[in certain light]

Have you got much to do to get yours perfect?

Regards,

Ian.

Ian, did I mention that your car looks fantastic ? I was fairly fussy when looking but was prepared to pay for a good one, I travelled over from the south of Ireland to England for this one ! I do believe in the saying 'you pay for what you get' ! Prior to buying mine it had new disks and pads all round, belts done at PowerFiat, centre console, oil cooler pipes etc. I've all the receipts and fsh for it. It had just 50K on the clock (53K now in 6 weeks !) I could do with getting the wheels refurb'd as there are a few blisters appearing but apart from that she's 100%. I'd love put 17 or 18's on her but would continue the LE colour scheme by getting titanium or antrachite finish. When the back box goes (the rest is pretty new) I'll get a nicer looking / sounding one.

Keep in touch

Brian

Cheers Brian.

I think yours looks great too! I saw your car for sale before you bought it. It was too expensive for my budget.

You really should stick with the standard wheels on the LE - your car is very original and it would be great to keep it like that. All you will get from the 17's or 18's is a harsher ride.

There is a paint code somewhere on the forum for the Titanium colour for when you get them refurbed.

If you want a nice quiet, but very nice sounding exhaust that has the same style [although larger diameter 90mm] tailpipe look at a Supersprint - I have just had one fitted.
It is not boomy or raspy, just a lovley deep tone.

Enjoy your coop!

Ian.
