Bicycles - am I missing something? #200001

A couple of months ago we bought a cheap bike rack from Aldi for my wife's car (Honda Civic). The box listed cars it didn't fit and, suprise, the Coop was on there.

However, out of idle curiousity I tried it on my car and it fits fine. I couldn't fit 3 bikes on it, but it could easily hold 2.

The question is - am I missing something? If I stick a couple of bikes on is it likely to pull the boot lid off or send the bikes clattering down the road or something? It seems stable enough, so it's hard to imagine it would cause a problem.

Anybody got any thoughts?

Dear monos, a secret truth.

I suspect it would be that kind of issue - Perhaps the boot isn't strong enough to support the extra weight for any length of time? I guess there's only one way to find out, really!

(I was never brave enough to try my bike rack on the Probe, either - Feels like far too much weight on that huge glass hatch, even if it's psychological & not really true!)

take some pics for me please Andrew of how you have it mounted?

I have a spare bootlid for mine when i do that to avoid scratching and stuff.
Also always take off the pedal closest to the car incase a big pothole or bump jars teh bike enough during motion to hit the bodywork

The main thing you will notice, and i have with teh paddyhopkirk one i have, is if you really torque up the straps you could bend the lips on the bootlid. i havent had the need to do them that tight on any car as i usually take 1 or 2 bikes on it when used and it cioped fine on a private road upto 120 leptons.

I cant see how it would mount on the window of a coop so it should be safe bar the bootlid scuffing and bumper scuffing at the top

www.kingpleb.talktalk.net has the pics of mine in there somewhere
