Which HID's??? #205815

Hi Guys,

With the long winter nights almost upon us, I'm going to take the plunge and buy some HID's for my Coupe.

However, there are a number of different kits out there and I was wondering if they differ a lot in quality between the different manufacturers? I would appreciate some feedback from owners experience if possible.

Cheers,
Den

I bought my kit about 4 months ago from Hids 4u. I can highly recommend this kit. Easy to fit, took me about 2 hrs and i'm like Clarkson when it comes to doing things on a car yourself. See here .

I bought mine from the recent group buy organiased by I8AV8. Very impressed, the ballasts appear well made and well sealed. Driving at night is soo much better.

Only time will tell as to how long they will last. As Vanquish says they are easy to fit and are a very satisfying upgrade.

Looking into this myself, seems an affordable and worthwhile modification. But, i'm sure i seen someone on here had upgraded the front sidelights also, to leds or something, as next to the HIDs the sidelights looked all weak and dim.

Anyone know anything about this and care to elaborate?

you can see that the fog light and main beam look very yellow by comparison.

Has anyone gone to the expense of upgrading dips AND main beams?

within the next month, I'll be commuting 80+ miles a day, all in the pitch black, mostly on unlit roads, some of it on twisty B roads. High time for an upgrade, methinks

Have a chat with Paul, he has HID's in both dipped and main beam Nigel.

I have them in my dipped, huge improvement once you've adjusted the lights.

Mate at work does. Worthwhile if you keep them on for a long time. Useless if not IMO as they take a little while to warm up

Mine take about 15secs to warm up. Even on a short journey they are fantastic. Best mod for the coop i've done so far.

Has anybody fitted a set of Turborevs HID's yet? They're currently going for £135 in the Group Buy section.

Hey if you think driving in the UK on unlit roads is bad you wanna come over here and try it !!!!! (even though there are white lines on the road when it rains --> there might as well not be) cos ya can't see sh*te 8(

So I think I may well be following the updates on the installations and reconmendation of this thread.

Got back from my hols last night so I decided that as the clocks have changed I should install them today.

A doddle... around 50 mins and they both fired up first time, even with engine off.

To be honest I did also treat myself to a pair of new headlights from AA as my old ones were knackered.

The result? Serious lighting power, just like a new car.

We have a new Citroen C8 with HID's which are even better than those of my Range Rover. There is now no difference between the two cars when driving at night.

The quality of this kit is excellent and the only awkward bit was having to remove the bulb retaining spring and re-installing it to get the HID bulbs in.

I would seriously recommend this kit to anyone and at the price (£95 delivered), you can't go wrong.

I did HID on dipped beam. 6000k lights which are blue white. I've also changed the sidelights to white LEDs to match. However they don't show up nearly so well as the yellow lights: look better for styling but not so visible.

I've also got another kit on order for the mains so both headlamps will be HID.

Ok, the units have been in for three days now and the headlight motors still work perfectly. I positioned the ballasts underneath the lights as looking at some of the installs, these are normally mounted at the back of the headlights near the motors which I feel can potentially cause problems with the motors.

The only concern I have is a lack of self-levelling for other road users.

As long as these are legal for use without self-levelling and washers I'm happy... a very worth while mod.

All I need now is to find out what sidelight LED's Bockers and Pinin used.

Jayzee, you worry about a lot of things, relax

The coupe side light isn't a bayonet fit, its a push fit as in the picture.

They work fine

I'm chillin'

Am I sounding like an old woman? That's worrying... there I go again worrying!!

Silly thing is in my job I do a lot of auto electrical work so asking a dumb question about the sidelights is rather embarrasing!

I think it's time I actually started to pull my car apart and see what's what before asking silly questions! My heater fan packed up the other day too so an ideal time.

Anyway, the HID's are superb and I can recommend the kit I purchased to anyone.

here

H1 is what you want. I can vouch that they are brilliant and do not blow the headlight motors. Quality of the cables and connectors are OEM standard just like Fiat.

You just need to mount the ballasts on the underside of the headlight units which is slightly different to what others have done with the Group Buy HID's.

You see? They are worth it for the look alone, just need those LED sidelight bulbs now.

You will get serious lighting power, just like a new car and if you live out in the sticks like me, will find night driving much easier.

I've just got my LED bulbs. Went to fit them tonight but there doesn't appear to be enough clearance to get the bad boys into the light casing. Do you have to take the light cluster off to get them in? I didn't want to force them incase I broke the LED's.

Also it doesn't seem to be a very secure fit? Can you use electrical tape to keep them in place?

Unless Im being a complete numpty.......

When I put the new LEDS in they don't go into the light holder that far so theres still about 1cm of exposed bulb. With the bulb holder and the LED on I can't get the bulb into the hole with the electrical thing on it as well..does that make sense

Hmmm, that's strange. Are you making sure that the locating pins are aligned?

Well, it only seemed to go in one way, but didn't seem very secure at all

I'll try again tomorrow, Im guessing they should go on as well as the original bulbs?

Yes they should, however that's not the ones I use. But I cannot see why they wouldn't fit, you're just being a fanny.

Well just been out again, it would appear that the LED I have is too large for the hole!

Some pics to explain:

Overall Length
LED won't fit in hole!

And to make matters worse, when I put the original bulb back in it didn't work so I went to get the bulb out again and now the whole white unit won't come out at all. I've tried twisting it to unlock it but its not budging...

Think I need a beer!

Blimey.

I now see why you can't fit it, I take the fanny comment back. Go have a beer.

After trying them again (see pics above) they definetly don't fit so think its as Rog suggested and off to Halfords with me!

If I can ever get the bulb holder thing out of the light again

I bought the same ones, and so did Pinin and they fit. Looks like he has changed his supplier and now the bulbs are bigger . Will take a scale photo later.
