It just comes down to people being considerate

You recognise that then.

As for the range rover, you could have taken the number and contacted the dvla for the details, or waited for them, or lots of things. But ultimately, its only a car made of metal, its not the worse thing in the world to get a dent.

My brother and me were once sat in his old car in the local shop's car park waiting for his girlfriend who was in the newsagent...some huge people carrier pulls in next to us, mum driving, kid in passenger seat and one other kid in back on same side...both kids race out of the car for some reason, flinging their doors open which both bang into Brother's car...the mother says nothing to them, despite the fact she's clearly seen it and when my brother gets outs to look at his doors and says something to her she replies "its a pile of old junk anyway so what does it matter?" and walks off...Think we both just stared at each other a little confused...

...end of the day, you'll never compete with the logic of some mother and her spoiled kids. In these days of selfish 4x4 driving parents, its even worse!

Agreed. But when the dent is caused by plain old inconsideration rather than an unavoidable accident, isn't it right that the considerate car enthusiast fought back just a little?

Contacting the DVLA is going to achieve sweet FA, and waiting for the owner to return will only lead to be a victim to their agression whether verbal or physical.

Do we just accept that the spoilt, agressive few can damage our cars without a care in the world?

Sometimes the aggro of confronting the guy/girl who did the damage isn't worth it. I posted on this last night and deleted it.

Had a new BMW bike years ago and watched 3 slobs do their best to trash it in a carpark. When confronted it got very interesting and 4 people got arrested for public order offences. Spent the night in the cells and more when back in barracks..cost me my corporal's tapes and delayed promotion to Sergeant by 6 months..

Sometimes its just not worth it.

In response to the original post - I posted this picture on here some time ago. I went to Toys r Us one evening to buy my niece a birthday present. Parked away from the door, and away from any other vehicle of any description, came out 15 minutes later to find this. OK, not a 4x4, but why? WHY?? Fcukwits.......

I shouldn't tempt fate but the coupe over here seems to get the opposite reaction and people are very careful around it. As we have smaller spaces in most carparks and I've never had a mark on it that I've seen. The cherokee I used to own would pick up 1 dent every couple of months even to the point where some [***] wit opened the door hard enough to leave paint and a nice dent. Just lucky they had left the carpark before I got back or i would have waited and had a word, and yes I do now which car did it wish I had waited until they got out before I left it.

Arghhhhh ! This makes my Blood boil ! People are so Fcukking inconsiderate !

After having previous cars damaged by people in car parks, now im one of those annoying twats who parks over 2 spaces or parent and child i have no shame! its just the only way you stand a chance of keeping your car in reasonable condtion

Picture this,a few months ago on a sunny summer evening went down to parkgate nr neston for an ice cream with the Girlfriend parked on the road outside the shop no cars in front or behind for 20 metres.

walked across road to shop purchased 2 mint choc chip walk outside (gone 3 mins max) to find some white van parked on my back bumper could not believe it waited in car for the twat to come back for a while no one did, took reg etc piccys checked over when i got back only few fine scratches on back which did polish out.

Its probably a good job the driver never came back.

Rant over !!!!!.....

Who was the guy that was in a supermarket, had his door bumped by a child, he said something to the lady and she proceeded to tell him to bog off. Only for this irrate coupe owner / debt collector to turn up at her door and get money to fix it even though the car was a 4x4 and not even her's?

Is it me or do we have narrower parking bays in our supermarkets than our European friends?

Go to costco. They have the right idea. They leave space for the doors to open and for you to load and unload. I park between 2 spaces most places and i dont care what anyone says.

Our local Safeway became a Tesco and one of the first things they did was repaint the car park creating more spaces by taking about six inches off each space
