I may be in for some Rasberries here, but I think it's quite sad how many of our members heap huge amounts of praise on our favourite vehicle, but then insult it by spelling it's name wrong. The way many of them spell it"COOP", it means a pen where you keep Poultry. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing I like more than to get a nice "CHIC" in my car, but I still give it it's correctly spelt name"COUPE"

Coop generally is used in fondness - there's nothing insulting about it, quite the opposite. In the same way you might call your wife, the 'misses' (sp?) etc, or if you had a BMW, you may refer to it as your 'BM' or Mercedes Benz as Merc/Mercedes etc - although 'Benz' IS particularly annoying Even my mates might say 'hows the coop?' I guess the accurate way of spelling 'coop' would be 'coup', but that just looks like you've made a spelling mistake & missed the 'e' off. So by using 'coop' it shows that you are using that word specifically, in fondness. Strange thread BTW More importantly, and worringly are the people who obviously can't spell or have half a grasp of using the English language. (PS. I bet I've made a spelling error in this post & I'm going to get flamed ) Edit: While we are on the subject, 'Fiat' should actually be 'FIAT' (The title of this whole forum & club name is incorrect - look at the top of this page )

Hi came2dance. Nope! it doesn't work on my key board (2 of them) On one it brings up Google, and the other, Search. But there again, as the water goes the opposite way down the plug hole in NZ as it does in the UK, I guess thats the reason.

Barrah, the difference between 'coupé' and 'coop' is the difference between a formal name and a pet name. Well, for the literate amongst us. I can't speak for those who just can't spell out there And alt gr e produces 'e' on this keyboard too, in Linux. I stole one of the bundle kindly placed further upthread Neil

Ah yes Neil that may well be, but it does not alter the fact that if you spell it "Coop" you are calling it a Hen house.
Still can't get my key boards to print that e

Christ... wedding anniversary..... <europa runs down to the shops to get last minute present> BB - I think I know where you are coming from - do you mean that some people can't pronounce Coupe correctly, and actually say 'coup' - as opposed to 'coup-ay'?

Try: Press down and hold the "Alt" key. Type 0233 on your number pad. Release the "Alt" key.
Then you get: é
Also Alt 130 on the number pad gets you the same thing.

Pete
Or you could just do Ctrl+Alt+e = é

Or if you want an alternative option: Go into Start, Settings, Control Panel, Keyboard, and click on the "Input Locales" tab. Then click on "Add" and select the French(France) option. OK, then OK again will add the French keyboard option. Close the Control Panel. Then go into the FCCUK Forum web page. In the bottom right hand side of the screen, there is a blue square with the white letters EN. Click on this, and then select FR instead. Then you can simply use the number 2 on the top row. Problem is that the letters a, z, q, m and w get moved, as does the comma and the full stop - which is a pain even for us touch typists. This post has taken far too long to write so I will revert to the English Keyboard immediately. (was discussed previously here- Been done before)

Well I use both coup and coupé. Coup is an affectionate term , like shortening samantha to sam or matthew or matt. I also call her "Sprint Blue Sally" . I hope that isn't insulting the coupé. BUT, my mum tells me off if I call it a coup, every time! "It is called a coupé, not a coop, makes it sound like a chicken coop" "Sorry mum"

Ah yes cappo, but it's obviouse that you Poms have forgotten the use of phonetic sounding words, as in BARRAH, and it was the English that invented them for communication reasons. But its not the sound of the word "Coupe" that I questioned, its the way that many people spell it. "Now which part of the spelling of "Coupe is it that "YOU" don't understand"??????
