My Coupe turned 150,000 miles on the way home tonight. It would have been nice to celebrate with a bit of a blast, but base boost and a 5,000rpm limit stopped me getting any serious speed up, and knackered discs would have stopped me slowing it down anyway.

Still - its an achievement (although I daren't think how much of the car has actually done the whole 150,000)

er, not quite

A REALLY silly bit of info for you...

150,000 miles is 5.9440161648 times round the planet.

The planet has a mean radius of 3959.872468264024 miles, but as a Coupe is 53.1496 inches tall, the roof has been subjected to a greater distance than the floorpan, resulting in the roof having travelled 6 yards and 9 inches further

However, as my Coupe was lowered by 1 inch about 35,000 miles ago.......

Nope, can't be bothered with that bit

Also - it still has full service history - Iceberg has just put the 15th stamp in the service book - I've had to buy a new one!

er, isn't that mileage on the same block though?
IMHO, in the coupe that's what counts all the other stuff are mere consumables

Well done Nigel, mine is on a moderate 180thousand proper stuff (KM) so only 108K miles...

Nope - this is the second lump.

Original engine was removed at about 110,000 miles after the oil rings wore and caused LOTS of oil consumption and an embarassing amount of smoke. Performance was still fine though - weird.

I then fitted Mavric's original engine (which had done about 45,000 miles), which I took to just over 300bhp, and ran for about 18 months before all the water escaped from a leaky expansion tak cap. Iceberg rebuilt it with a flex-hone to the bore, new forged pistons and gapless rings, plus a Barbz-special cylinder head, C&B cams and a wild turbo.

That was in July at 136,000 miles - I've done 14,000 since then

That engine sounds spotty dog... what kind of torque / bhp has it got?

Hmm i wonder if the 355 would have used about the same amount of fuel over the same milage....

A lot of the miles are to PT and back unfortunately but still its coming into the milage im racking up in the months on mine and ill clock up more when the LPG is mapped right

Damn - that's about 17,500 miles a DAY. Assuming you don't stop, that's an average of 744mph - not bad for a 16v N/A

Someone just bought you a new shiny calculator Nigel??

Good on ya with the mileage, it's nice to know some of the coops get used properly. 14,000 miles in under 6 months is most impressive

F****** b****** thing...

Maybe some kind of mileage top 10 section on the forum is in order. If I still had mine it would have been hitting 130K in a few months - and that's original everything (bar clutch)

Adding to this thread I started at the end of November - another milestone - just turned 160,000

Only 10,000 miles since then, however, the car was off the road at Perfect Touch from mid December until mid January for the mapping problems. It was also off the road at the bodyshop from early February for six weeks.

So, since the end of November, the car has done 10,000 miles in three and a half months on the road. At this rate, I should hit 200,000 by summer next year.

How are all the other bits and pieces coping? Such as battery, alternator, power steering pump, steering rack, wheel bearings etc etc Are they coping with the mileage (if still original)?

Probably better than a car sat on its arse all day.

Steering, including rack, track rods, power steering pump are all original, as is the alternator, driveshafts, gearchange mech, all engine ancillaries (intake manifold, exhaust manifold [staggeringly] pipework etc). The original battery failed about three months ago. The wheel bearings were replaced at about 100,000 miles.

Everything inside the car is original with the exception of the front seats, which I've replaced with much more supportive items from a Hyundai Coupe. All the electrics are original apart from the aircon internal temp sensor and the ECU (which was fine until PTS fried it)

Its on its third clutch, with the first one starting to slip at about 90,000 and the (standard) replacement whipped out at 136,000 to make room for something to handle 400bhp.

All the solid brake pipes are original (although I've been through rather a lot of front flexi-pipes )

As has been mentioned above, its probably better to do 160,000 miles in a car than 16,000. If it wasn't for my level of tune, many other bits would be original too, such as suspension, gearbox and quite likely the engine too.

I definitely agree with this. My "first" car was my mums Metro. She had had it from new and I began to drive it as soon as I passed by test at 17. It had about 30,000 on it and the engine was clapped. Burnt oil at a tremendous rate and left embarassing smoke trail wherever I went :o.

Are you still on the original oil cooler Nigel? I'm at 110,000 now and I'm wondering how long they last. The pipework is definitely looking a bit "iffy" despite my regular coats of rustcote. Considering its at 3bar pressure most of the time its doing well.

James

Jap, don't mean to scare monger, but save yourself some hassle and get them done. Best case senario you notice a trail of oil behind you before the engine is starved of oil like I did - but you'll still be needing to get it towed somewhere. Worst case bye by engine if your drivning and don't notice till the light comes on...

I'm pretty sure I had a good secondhand oil cooler and pipes fitted after mine started weeping a little. It was at least a couple of years ago though

EDIT - hmmm - just looked through my fairly exhaustive (and extensive) Excel spreadsheet list of expenditure, and the oil cooler isn't mentioned.

Can I really be on the original?
