What do you lot recon for my first attempt?

Clicky nice shiney wheel

for pete: the final finish has now been done so the orange peel laquer effect has now gone

Not bad for the first thing I've tried to spray and get a perfect finish on! Not the true LE colour either, but it's close enough - rover gunmetal from halfords

Good Job

Did you have to fill in any scrapes or was it just a respray?

Must have made quite a mess of your bed too.......

there were 2 small scrapes that I sanded down, then used primer to build the first layer even. I did read about using the special etch primer stuff, but the areas were so small I didnt think it was worth the hassle (one the size of a 2p piece, the other a 1p piece).

The rim has been carefully cleaned all over so the bed is fine!

Simma that looks quality! Are u gonna bake it in the oven to harden the paint?

I'm seriously considering doing mine. I reckon i'll also fill in those little numbers printed into the rim, sand then paint.

Good job!

cheers, its been sitting above a protable oil heater (not a fan one) for the last week, kept nice and warm. The smell of the laquer has gone now, so its pretty much just about cured. Will keep it there for maybe another week then get the tyre fitted etc....

Do you think it would be possible to get a good finish with the tyre still on? Obviously not bake it in the oven tho!

Nice job S1MMA ! Do I take it you've got LE centre caps to go with it, as they look much better than the silver ones of standard 20VT wheels?

Phil

Willis, if you want to be a perfectionist (or do the job as best as you can) then it's worth either taking the tyre off, or at least getting a tyre bar and pushing it down so you can access the whole top half of the rim. I masked off the wheel bolt recess and the valve cap recess also as getting paint on them is probably not a great idea.

Highwayman, cheers, I'm on the lookout for LE centre caps, seen the pricey ones on ebay, fiat quoted about £8 each inc vat, so will probably order from Fiat if they can get hold of them. Can you get them anywhere else? Gouki has the red abarth scorpions on his, but its an LE so has all the matching red on the inside etc... so it goes well.

What colour paint are you using ?? Or what paint code ??

Yeah I stuck those abarth ones on Gouki car when I had the wheels refurbed. They go with all the red on the car

Cheers

S1MMA - I got my LE centre caps from Fiat, as they were the easiest place to go. Since then I have seen them sell for more than list price on eBay, so just bite the bullet and go to the main dealer .

Looks very nice mate. TBH I was impressed with the work in progress I saw this week letalone that image above. The Red Arbath centre caps do suit the LE well EDz.

13.95 @ 100.65mph - from only a gtech chip! My my that's a very fast quarter mile time, S1MMA you must be a highly skilled driver, i'm sure people with far more mods than you can't even get close to that time!

Hmm, do yours need to be refirbed again?

Well, we'll see next time we go to the pod won't we Mr Hybrid/Front mount. Having more power does make it harder to launch cleanly off the line with just the right amount of wheelspin so you dont bog down, yet don't start a smokescreen.
