does anyone have a method for getting rid of the scratches on the centre console around the radio/casette player?
there must be a way of cleaning this up

It's a rubber coating on the moulded plasic, so it is very unlikely you will be able to polish scratches out. However you can strip the coating off, leaving bare plastic which can be left as is or painted - although I believe this is a pain of a job.

The only real way of achieving an 'as new' finish is to replace the parts.
