Hi all

just wondering if anyone has made the astray into a second din?

also do motorised screens fit and work in the coupe... angle etc looks like the might fail on the dash or even maybe the gearstick?

any pics with screens fitted?

cheers
Paul R

I've seen plenty of pictures on here (before the crash) of Coupes with motorised screens in.

A friend of mine has one in his MR2 and he has a button which can change the angle of the screen to cope with varying shapes in certain dashboards.

Unsure about the gearstick thing though.

i have one in my bravo... but the main problem i see with the coupe is that the actual dash would stop the screen flipping round.. as the headunit is sunk back...

if you are a clever chap....it's not too hard to relocate the h/u to the top of the console and move the heater vents to where the h/u was....should take you a few hours to do!

Not installed in the ashtray though. Also, gear no. 1,3 and 5 can not be used with the screen flipped out. (Neutral is fine though..)

I removed the ashtray and used the slot at first for the radio but now I have a motorized vga screen for the incar pc in there and the radio's back at the top..It's easy enough to use but no good if you want other people to see any movies.

If you fit the screen where the radio is everyone will see it, unless you're on 5th gear! you could then install the radio where the ashtray is (suposing you have a 20V model)

I'll upload some photos of the new screen position as soon as I have them (it may take 1 or 2 weeks since my digi cam is dead)

This was my first screen:

i used to have an alpine CVA screen in my coupe. had to pull it forward slightly so it could open up ok.

i could use all gears, but couldnt open/close the screen unless in 2, 4 or reverse.

what you do my friend...is relocate the air vents to where the radio was....if you take off the centre console, you'll see it's not to hard to do

but if you use the air vent for the screen you woul end up covering the beautiful pininfarina signature...unless you relocate it to the right, in front of the passager's seat!

when I had the screen where the radio is I just had to be careful when shifting into 5th...now, at the ashtray's place I have no problems, and the touchscreen is completly usable

BrianMay,
I'd love to rack your brains about your setup. I am going to build a media centre laptop and feed to a touch screen on the dash - location to be determined but not going for flip out.

Would love to find out about ignition sensing, power etc...

Also, anyone ever heard of Drive Soft?

anytime...perhaps msn messenger would be easier I could point you out to some foruns also

there was a picture somewhere (I googled but couldn't find it) of a coupe with a fibreglassed screen where the air vents should be...It looked smooth but I rather see the pininfarina badge there

cheers all.

i will have to see what it looks like when the fasica is off.

but then i need a HU slot so i would have to put that in where the HU slot is currently.

If i was to plug the vents would the air just be redirected or would it put a load on the blower and heater matrix?

Why the need for a HU ?

you could connect your pc directly to a AMP so when you ajust your volume in the software it amplyfies it directly to your speakers. al the soundfiles can be stored on your computer and if needed connect a cd or dvd player to the computer so all can be played thrue there...

... so what is the need of the headunit than ?

so he can hear the football matches while driving :P (since a radio pc-card won't be of any good while moving)

I believe mavric as a car-pc also (at least he has a vga screen with tv-tuner in the radio slot)

Why not ? you can connect your pc radio/tv card to your arial booster as long as you are in a location where it is on the same frequance there should be no problem

regarding you're not moving!!! only digi-tv can be seen on the move, regular tv waves cannot be captured while moving. The same goes for pc radio cards. The radio in you car has some gadgets to improve and compensate losses of signal because you're not standing still, a pc radio card doesn't do that. There is a project for a radio card capable of doing that in an American forum, but it is still far from being ready

Didn't know that and never tested (obviosly)

but thanks for the tip.

but on the other hand why would you want to have a radio in your car is you have a verry large collection of mp3 files...

end digital tv never whated to have that but just radiocards are as expansive as combined radio and tv cards.

for the tv part just used divx material ...

if i go for a in car pc i will need a touch screen to do whats suggested...which is great and exactly what i want as i can mould it in where the ashtray and HU us atm i might do this in the summer when i can enjoy doing all the wiring in the nice wether and mould it all in the dash

the reason why i needed a slot for my HU was because i dont have a PC atm so the screen (which isnt touch screen) is just a stand alone for my Xbox.

Agreed that once i have a PC + lillput or similiar then the HU would go, i am sure there is some kind of radio tuner you can get, if not an old HU will be distroyed to get radio .

how much do you think i should bugget for the PC?

I don't think you'll be able to bond the bezel of the screen to the dash since there are two screews holdind the front of the dash where the ashtray ends..to fibreglass a screen there it would take serious modification to the dash!

you have a few shops online where you can buy all the hardware you'll need...I'd reccomend:

www.linitx.com (uk-based)
