I parked up in Halfords the other week and was halfway to the store when i heard shouting and a banging noise. I looked round to find a guy had parked so close next to my car that his wife could not get out. To prove her point she was banging her door against my car and shouting at her husband!! I couldn't believe it! I ran over to my car, jumped in, and moved it to the back of the carpark! I now have a genuine phobia of parking anywhere near a shop entrance!

Obviously I voiced my displeasure, but if she was making that much of a scene getting out of her car, imagine what she would have been like getting back in! I could have made sure I beat her back to my car, but I don't like being rushed in Halfords! Especially since I was deciding on my wash/wax products for the sunny months!

True story, crap picture.....I posted this before, whem it happened. I too always park as far from the shop as possible (much to MrsC's either annoyance or humour!). A couple of years ago I had to visit Toys R Us one evening to buy a niece or nephew a present. So, I parked about 5 ROWS away from the nearest car, in a deserted part of the car park. Was only in there 10 minutes and came out to find this... Absolutely true, that's an actual (crap) phone picture taken at the time. Thought this was really funny, until tonight. Parked at the end of a row in practically empty car park (Riverside in Huntingdon) and came out to ..... Nice parking parked about 3 foot from drivers door. Thanks alot.

I'd bet there was a psychological basis for this - 'sheep syndrome'. The heaving masses generally have no mind of their own. For example, whenever you walk out of a large department store, with five doors next to each other, the next person out will walk past four sets to come out of the one you've just used.
I bet if you were to set up an proper experiment on an empty car park, you'd find people who'd park next to you more often than not.
And yeah, I always get aggrieved with people who take up two spaces - I never figured out they're invariably nice motors whose owners are probably protecting them from knocks...hmm, food for thought, that one.
