Mate of mine has just bought a red 20vt...possibly on here once? Has bodykit, circular brake light at the bottom of the bumper, spoiler, vents in the bonnet?, twin exhausts etc. (not to my tastes) and I thought hmm fair play it's a nice enough car.

He then turns it on to say listen to this noise and literally just after the engine fires up he revs it to redline..........CHRIST WHAT A STUPID IDEA I was thinking....then we leave and again straight away full boost up a hill then round a corner........oh dear oh dear! Engine/Turbo's gonna last 5 mins!

Then today I'm going along the motorway and a guy in a blue 20vt comes pulling along the side of me and puts his nose up me as if to say "I'm better" then pulls off slowly........another idiot in my eyes.

I hope not all other Coupe owners are like this....god!

\:\( Don't fancy the chances of your mate's car surviving long.

Not all coupé owners are like that and the ones that are end up driving Alfas \:D

Yea I was shocked to say the least and when we went for a drive together and I was going slowly to let the car warm up when we pulled up his words were "why were you driving slow?"

I just thought to myself because I want my Coupe to last....

So you have to work at having chav's for mates or is it a matter of circumstance?

I'm pleased to say non of my mates would do such a thing, but then, I'm careful about who I choose. ;\)

Welformed I don't really know the chap, only met him once just heard he had a Coupe now which was similar to mine so I wanted to see it but with all the hideous bodywork strapped all over it I prefer my 16vt by a long shot!

He was telling me he's having it "chipped" this weekend and the boost wound up.........BAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG lol!

He swapped it with his Focus ST170 apparantly?

Oh right! Apologies. You want to tell him about my WRC wastegate flutter sound idea - remove the recirc valve and plug up the hole. All the unused air will come back out the airbox making a loud flutter sound.

His turbo should last about a month maybe... ;\)

Hey but I'm only a young lad at 20, never owned a Turbo car before and haven't got a clue about them, I can't even find the turbo on mine (it is a turbo though!) lol but I look after my car the best I possibly can. Just because I'm young doesn't mean I am a moron! People always assume (not saying you are) that a younger guy is going to be a complete twat when he is put ina fast car, obviously this guy sounds like he is one, but yeah, im just rambling on now!

raulus, if ur interested the turbo is the lumpy bit that sticks out in front the engine hiding under aheat shield just below the exhaust manifold - if you follow the air filter / induction piping back youll find it \:D

Could be better posting in technical problems as I'm not technical, but the DV is supposed to stop the air coming back out the way it came in by 'dumping to the atmosphere' (not out the airbox and stalling the turbo on the way). The flutter sound can be the air coming back out through the air filter. Could also just be the DV valve vibrating or sticking and if so would not too much to worry about. It could even be a feature of your DV, in which case, what is it please!

Mine flutters a bit if I release the throttle before full turbo spool and there is not quite enough reverse pressure open the valve fully, so it flutters a bit albeit very quietly.

Fast cars are made to be driven fast, but there is a big difference between driving fast and thrashing it. For the record, mine is always warmed up before giving it beans (where did that phrase originate? ), and cooled down afterwards \:P

I'm not technical either, but I imagine that if it flutters a bit and dumps a bit, then some of the air is going back through the turbo before the pressure has built up enough to open the dump valve. The more PSSSHHHHT and the less flutter you get the more boost you will hold and the better it will be for you turbo. (because flutter slows down the turbo spinning). @ someone technical - is that right?

Coupe's aren't made to be driven hard all the time whether your thrashing them or not.

I'd NEVER take the Coupe to the redline as it's no good for the engine yet this guy I could hear it keep going to the redline every gear change when we were out on the road.

If you don't respect the car it won't respect you....end of.

Oh and I get the fluttery sound also on LOW LOW boost.

I don't see the problem, it's his car he can treat it how he likes. Obviously, lack of mechanical sympathy will catch up with him sooner or later, but it'll be his problem

Live and let live eh?

Well it's asking to be classed as "Boy Racer" anyway with the vents and bodykit on the thing....let alone the way it's driven so ill leave him to it!

We need a FCCUK class-police squad. Several of us turn up at his door, flash some fccuk cards and tell them we're confiscating your car in the name of maintaining it's exclusivity.

Probably Suba alongside for backup. \:D

I disagree. Once it's up to temperature taking it to the redline wont harm the engine, if it did then the redline would be lower. The redline is the safe limit.

You dont have to go anywhere near the redline to drive fast, mine starts boosting hard at 3000rpm, I've only ever taken it to the redline once or twice, and that was to test how much boost I was holding.

P.S. I'm not trying to defend that guy, if he was redlining it when it was cold then that IS harmful \:P

I know the car, the previous owner used to drive round my way a bit. Hideous thing.
Those are the kinds of coops i want to see blow up and die. Tell him to whack the boost up to at least 5 bar!
