Hardly at all . Once I bought my Coop I got all the jobs done that I reckoned it needed to keep it running smoothly.

The only time my Coop has broken down as such was when my oil cooler pipes split \:\( . So I suppose once in a year and a half of ownership (with a car thats 10 years old) is not bad .

Keep it regularly maintained, don`t mod it and you`ll be trouble free .

Had mine about a year and a half now and it hasn't broken down yet - touch wood \:D

I don't expect it to either \:\) The only thing I forsee, that may let me down over winter, is the battery, other than that, nothing(hopefully) \:D

Same here - after almost two years. Just now having a misfire problem - the first ever.

Pray for us.

Breaking down - as in unforeseen, none consumable failure.

Twice in 7 years and 90,000miles, alternator voltage reg £10 & ignition module £50 secondhand. Or three if you include the clutch.

Mine has never broken down, it's just in pieces in my garage waiting for a new turbo \:P

Mine too - never broken down, in the 3 years I've had it. Regular servicing, and kept standard seems to help. But even modified cars, that are modified well and serviced regularly should be fine.

In four years of ownership:

blown piston (my fault)
Blown water hose times 2 (different hoses)
blown oil cooler
Fuse for headlights gone (no lights on DC)
Leaking rad
Boost pipe popped off after changing the rad (took me 40 mins to find it cos I'm blind)

....and I never skrimp on maintenance - if anything looks below par it's replaced.

I've owned mine for 108,000 miles and 7 years. Only broken down once, a blown water hose when the car was stopped in a carpark. I do keep it maintained though, with lot of the usual bits changed when need, but only serviced every 12k miles.

- Popped off a boost pipes a few times
- Car wouldn't start a few years ago, broke down 2/3 times in couple of weeks (dodgy cabling now sorted)
- Miss-fire a few years ago
- Brake caliper came loose and lost a bolt
- Wishbone bolts were loose (fixed at Brize Norton)

About three and half years across a couple of coops and they've never broken down on me as such (wishy runs off to find a tree to hug).

Once wouldn't start and I needed to replace the battery, does that count?

Up yours Photobucket.

Hmmm - I reckon I've needed recovering to Motormech five times in four years

almost dead battery - would turn over but wouldn't fire up
burst brake hoses (twice)
crank sensor
burst coolant hose

All of them have been 'ordinary' failures (ie not caused by the high state of tune)

There was also one occasion when I had to leave the car at Perfect Touch, but that was down to a fried ECU, caused by incorrect fitment of the Unichip, so hardly the car's fault.

In the 18 months I owned it, mine never "broke down"...1 or 2 occasions where it needed a few attempts to start for some reason, but that was it.

...there was the occasion I lost anything above 2000rpm...but that was cos i'm a chopper and hadn't fixed a hose securely enough after fitting DV and it popped off.

Once in 3 years and that was only due to a knackered battery and that was on our drive, anyway \:\)

three times, ish

faulty temp sensor so was rediculously overfuelling (but still drove (when it wanted to start) cost a few quid but was a pain identifying the problem in the first place,

second time turbo went, really smokey but would still drive (but obviously i didnt want to drive it lol)

third time was 36hrs after i got it back from having the turbo done, proper fuccked this time but i still think it was the fault of the garage who fitted the turbo caning it around.

stll off the road because of the above, but will be fixed soon touch wood

Only let me down a couple of times and both times it's been bits from the Lancia!

Water hose gave up in a big way on the m6 coming back from Fort William.

Had a bad connection with power supply to the fuel pump, luckily being in the boot managed to get home with the aid of gaffer tape and zip ties.

In the 18months I had mine the only time it truly broke down was when the battery died. Other than that the fuel cut-off swich activated 3 times quite randomly. Once I knew where the switch was it was an easy 10 second fix.

Twice in 3 years.

1st: Supposedly a ROM on my Unichip failed and caused some errors with the TDC Sensor.

2nd: Burst radiator, car was fine, pulled up in a petrol station and she just let go, the poor thing, should have got her some Tena Lady (rad was due to be replaced).

My RX7 broke down 20+ times.

Nuff' sed.

Let's tempt fate!

Actually broken down - none in the 18 months I've been runnign it (had some close calls though)

Things broken - lost count! (admittedly some of these were present when I bought the car & I had them fixed.

Broke down a lot more in my old Porsche....

I've had to get the RAC guy out three times in four years.
Twice for tiny electricals - push-button issue and the yellow connector box; and once for a busted gearbox.

Not bad really.

I've had my 20VT for just over a year and in that time its left me stranded three times.

The first time the aux belt let go and took the rest of the engine with it.

The second time the clutch slave cylinder failed and left me without gears.

The third time, the cam phase sensor failed and the car wouldn't start.

The first problem cost me over a grand, the second about £30 and the third, somewhere in between.

Despite this, i still love my Coupe which says something.

Twice in over 7 years and over 100K miles, both times i pulled over due to coolant loss ... so i guess technically i've never broken down!

For me it has been one time. After I changed the IC I didn´t check all hoses. At one bar one hose came off \:P
