Are there any issues with oil pressure by doing this?

I seem to be condicting a one man bankrupcy campaign against you guys! Your girlfiends must hate me As for oil pressure, I quess that you will have to add a little more to compensate. If we get a few orders, I guess I could get the price down below £50.

Well if it's below £50 then count me in. It's got to be worth doing if only to save getting oil everywhere when it comes to oil changes.

Yup, that's it. If you look at Taz's post earlier, he has lots of detailed pictures. Shoud mean that the oil change is a 10 minute job, so not excuses.
Just waiting for the full list of parts from TAZ...

Do the na engines not run a oil / water cooling system, where as the turbo's run an oil / air cooling system? Not sure if / what impact it will have on your setup

Soz lads, forgot to check this & got the PM from Squid, I will scan a pic of the think auto invoice, it totalled about £80ish I think for the lot, but I bought extra bits as I wasn't sure what was needed. Points to NOTE : This will NOT affect your oil pressure, as all you are adding is about 2 metres of reinforced braided hose to the new oil filter holder. You will however have to ADD more oil ( about 0.75l at the minimum, as the new larger filter I use, hold 0.5l on its own, then there is the hosing. You have to prime the engine as if you were fitting a new turbo, eg : phase sensor disconnected until engine oil pressure is back to full on the starter ( you can help this by filling the oil filter to the brim ). The original oil cooler uses a thermostatic circuit & this REMAINS, as oddly the coop uses a sandwich plate anyway, that's what your oil cooler pipes fit into I thought long & hard about this, and even worked out a way to use the original oil cooler pipes, however you would have to fully open the thermostat in the housing, then fit another one BEFORE the remote filter head to maintain the OEM setup, way too messy & even more pricey. Hence I simply used a sandwich plate, which still has oil always flowing through the filter, then when hot enough, it goes to the cooler I've run this setup for over 3k on my 2.4 & wouldn't risk it if it was incorrect. Anybody else can do a rough fluid sketch & they will see I am correct I'll add a link to the think auto bits the bracket drawing it at work, so that will be tomorrow evening i'm afraid OH : Disclaimer : If you fit this wrong & fcukk up your engine, its YOUR FAULT Taz

Right, parts I "reckon" you will need are : 1 off RFH3A @ £18 I this is the remote left hand entry filter holder, you cannot use the FIAT crap filters anymore, instead use the larger Ford Mondeo oil filters ( I use the FRAM / Champion ones ) You need at least 6 dowty washers ( bonded seals ) : BS13/16 @ £2 each, you really need 4, but they can fcuk up when you tighten them up. 1 off TOP1 filter take off plate, BUT this must be a M20 female thread, not the bloody 3/4UNF I was supplied, as this will not fit the coop engine block @ £15 A sealing washer for the TOP1, cannot remember the pt no ( unless it came with one, see below ) Custom made stainless 1/2" ID braid hose, 2 off : HEFSW93-8, Fcuk knows what that means, but they are almost identical length, with one end having straight 1/2"BSP connectors, the other having 90deg swaged 1/2"BSP unions @ about £28 the pair you will also need 4 off BSP nipples ( 1/2" BSP Male / Male ) @ £0.92ea, pt no' MMS3-8-8 for some reason I also have on the list 569A, listed as S/RING SMALL filter, aha ! this is for the fcukking remote filter head & the bloody take off plate, yours for £0.44 each, you need 2 of these that should do it, so you can add it up. I would also factor in getting a filter bracket made up, maybe think auto could knock them up, then hey presto, a coop kit ! If you want the lengths, the ONLY person I know who may know this is Barbz, so go begging hope this helps. It would be wise to visit think auto & lay the bits out then see if you actually have a full kit, they will fill in the blanks oh, P&P is normally parceline @ £8.95 Taz

You could buy some pro gold fittings and hose and make your own hoses up to the correct length.
Rally design offer the pro gold hose and fittings quite a bit cheaper than think auto. Online shop too!

They do indeed Mr Begbie, in fact it's identical set up to VW cars of the same era. I'm sure the na and turbo use the same filter though. I assumed, maybe wrongly, that the adapter plate used the filter screw or is it more complex than that? That may work Stan, I changed my water exchanger to a seperate oil cooler by changing to a shorter thread on the centre part 3/4 UNF IIRC, I think I could have got away with puting the sandwich plate in on top of the exchanger with the std set up. Best thing to do is get the bits and try, there'll be a way. Rich

Only observation I have about the filter is I think the mondeo one is wrong for the application. It has a non return valve or whatever it is called which stops the oil flowing out of the filter when the car is off, but that is not required because the filter is mounted upside down vertically. The non return valve doesn't let the oil pass through until the desired pressure is built up which means there is more 'effort' required to obtain the same oil flow (if that makes sense) and oil won't flow out until the desired pressure is reached. Doesn't make any difference to my application because the engine turns over more times than std before it fires (it does a sync rotation) and so I already have some pressure before it fires Still I am happily using the Mondeo filter at the moment and have change my oil 3 times since I got it

John, the ati-drain back feature has been around on most filters for ages, usually its a rubber donut / flap, that stops oil draining out of the filter if its mounted on its side. in this case, and ideally, ALL filters should be mounted this way, the oil never drains out of the filter, as it's always primed ( hence why heavy diesels have em' this way ) the extra force is irrelevant, as it would only take 1 psi or so to open the oil flap, oil flows from the outside to the inside on all filters, either way, its better than the FIAT version, which is always on its side from the factory, and that probably has no anti-drain back feature FIAT eh ?

not the best of drawings, in fact its shit ! I don't have CAD at work, so had to bodge this up http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e238/Tazcannibal/coolerbracketpicture.jpgONE word of caution, this doesn't clash on my car at all, however if you have HID ballasts fitted under the headlight pod, IT WILL CLASH YOU are responsible to make sure you have no other crap under the bonnet in the OSF h/light area.

From looking at Taz's pictures I've just figured out why I had such a nightmare fitting mine when Barbz sent me the kit. Both ends of my braided hose were terminated with 90 degree couplings which meant that when they exit the original oil filter location they go towards the front of the car not to the right. This means they pass across very close to the first bend in the downpipe. Oil Pipes Oil Pipes You can see the route in these two pictures. Looks good until you try and fit the downpipe. My H&S downpipe never fitted very well anyway. You can see I've had to cover the oil cooler pipes with insulation as the downpipe was touching them. I need to get yet another downpipe made up with a tighter first bend to avoid these clearance problems or see if I can set straight fittings for that end of the pipe so they come out in the direction shown in Taz's picture but I don't think the pipes will be long enough then. Actually, I'll look at my hoses again John, as I "may" think that they are both fitted with 90 deg elbows at both ends. My down pipe clears the hoses, as they are routed similar to yours, but go lower down a bit ( see below ) http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e238/Tazcannibal/03112006057.jpgI did have to cover the down pipe with thermotec wrap anyway as its not double skinned like the OEM one, as you end up cooking the sump ! your install looks very neat tho dude, nice & clean all the other bits

Keep a check on the other hoses etc that the braided ones rub against. You wouldn't believe how abrasive a braided hose can be!!
There are some thermo sleeves that fit over hoses too, maybe an idea to try some of that?

Thanks Taz, she's still looking clean and shiny as I only did 800 miles in her last year. I dread to think what the cost per mile was! Those 800 miles were bliss though compared to the rest I did in the Jeep.

Blimey, 800 miles ? i checked my new MOT & my coop has only done about 1800 miles since the 2.4 Now, back on topic, I looked at my install & its the same as yours, eg, the takeoff at the Original filter location uses hoses with 2 off 90 deg bends, this clears my downpipe by miles, so your d/p must be an odd one Taz

Taz,
How long are the hoses? Also are the fittings screw on or push lock?
Looks like I will have to make the kit up myself as I have had no response from Barbz. I'll ask Think Auto about multi buy discounts, but I need the hose lengths first.
