Hey everyone, Yesterday I went to a private stretch of track and gunned the Coop a 'little bit'. Had the ole girl up to 140MPH fairly quickly and was just wondering what speeds others had had out of their 20VT's? Gotta be honest, I was amazed at how quickly it got to that speed as I thought after about 120MPH it would start to crawl a fair bit. But no, she kept on pulling and pulling, it was when I ran out of tarmac though I had to slow down, lol I think the book speed of the 20VT is around 150MPH, but wondered what speeds genuine owners had had out of their motors? Cheers guys! Darren

How fast? well, put it this way, they put 180* mph clocks in later cars, with no increase in power Do a road trip to Italy or Austria via the southern German Autobahns *180 if it's seriously tuned of course ! The extra numbers were to cover up to 165-ish

The fastest I've been in mine is when I was following Cyclone in his remapped 335d on the way to TOTB, lets just say we were progressing nicely!

164mph, no major mods, verified by GPS to be pretty much spot on.

How does it feel at 164? Does it start to feel very light at the front?

It starts to go light at about 140 and gets worse but not uncontrolable.
It is a lot worse if you remove the front undertray as when i did a run abotu 6 months later without the front was a lot lighter over 140 but no difference under that speed.

TBH things are happening too quickly to take much notice other then full concentration on what you're doing, but I don't recall it being particularly light or vague or, indeed scary.
Was about 4-5 years ago now, in my current Plus, at dawn on a warm summer's day.

It starts to go light at about 140 and gets worse but not uncontrolable. your car isn't set up correctly then mine is absolutely rock-solid at an indicated 170 (actually 159, as timed at Ten of the Best). I'd only just changed into 6th gear, so I reckon there was another 20mph to come, but unfortunately the end of the runway was coming up pretty quickly

One of the problems I find with speeds greater than 100MPH in the Coop are the wipers tend to raise up a little bit. Not sure if this is everyone or just me though?

Had mine off the clock at 160 but not sure how accurate it is my mate was following in his porsche and said his digital read out was showing 153 but again dont know how accurate it is i work on porsches and there not spot on. Heard of some on rolling roads hitting 175 upwards. Depends how brave you feel!

when mine was totally standard i saw 152ish on an airstrip, and it felt like there was a little left - unlike the airstrip, which ran out pretty quickly... edited to add, this was verified by gps...

TBH, the only time you need to worry about the wipers losing contact is in the rain, and then you really shouldn't be doing over 120 anyway imo (or over 70 on a publicly accessible road )

I have seen 164mph on GPS, the max I believe was achieved in South Africa at 183mph, although I could be really wrong on that figure, just remember the interesting write up and the hugh amounts of extra BHP to achieve and extra 1-2mph

I've seen around 165 on the speedo (not GPS verified though) at Brize Norton runway. I know a few 'special' coupes on here would be capable of 180/190 if given the chance

Well I went 140 recently...then I noticed that my tyres were only rated for 106 mph sustained!!!They are R rated...not entirely sure how long sustained is though? Having read up on this most coupes probably run on VR rated tyres and they can only handle 131mph sustained.

I think you'll find most coop's I have seen run on W-Z rating, and I certainly would never fit anything below.
Sorry, I should have added that Toyo TR1 or Goodyear's are tyre of choice, they just suit the coop set up, please see the tyre thread, but what ever you have on your car at the moment, you really need to change them
Last edited by julian; 05/02/2008 16:55. Reason: suddenly had a bad feeling Shifty might wrap himself round something with tyres from a Citroen Berlingo on his coop
